INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Indy swim and dive teams opened their season with a sweep over Eastern Illinois. The women’s team defeated the Panthers 190-65 while the men’s team won 196-65. The Jags swept the meet, earning the top time in every event. Emmaleigh Zietlow and Addy Hirsbrunner each earned three individual first-place finishes for the women while Zach Drotar earned three first-place finishes for the men’s team.
The meet began with the women’s 200 medley relay. The team of Hirsbrunner, Kaylee Dexter, Dani Stemper and Tori Brandt took first with an overall time of 1:48.27. The men’s relay team of Jack Gallob, Zach Drotar, Isaac Wilson and Luca Eckert took first with a time of 1:33.23.
After the opening relay, the two teams went head-to-head in individual swims. Zietlow earned her three top times in the 1000 free (10:17.03), 200 free (1:51.84) and 500 free (4:58.75). Freshman Hirsbrunner added three first-place finishes, in her Jaguar debut, with top times in the 100 back (58.73), 200 back (2:05.23) and 200 IM (2:11.50).
Lillian Brandt and Luca McGee also earned two top finishes. Brandt took first in the 200 fly (2:08.33) and 100 fly (57.62) while freshman McGee took first in the 50 free (24.20) and 100 free (52.87).
Victoria Surdyka and Dexter each earned a first-place finish for the women’s team as well. Surdkya took first in the 100 breast (1:08.69) and Dexter earned the top time in the 200 breast (2:27.72).
On the men’s side, freshman Drotar lead the way in his debut with three first-place finishes. Drotar earned the top times in the 100 breast (57.21), 200 breast (2:05.01) and 200 IM (1:56.26). Freshman teammate, William Gorman earned two first-place finishes with top times in the 1000 free (9:53.44) and 200 fly (1:52.63).
Sophomores Nathan Rariden and Luca Eckert also each added two first-place finishes. Rairden took the 200 free (1:42.13) and 500 free (4:40.18) while Eckert earned top times in the 50 free (21.32) and 100 free (46.50).
Sophomore Jack Gallon added a first-place finish in the 200 back (1:57.11) while freshman Anthony Braun took first in the 100 back (54.80) and freshman Hugo Arteaga earned first in the 100 fly (50.06).
Both the men’s and women’s team closed out the meet with wins in the 400 free relay. The women’s relay team of McGee, Zietlow, Brandt and Barnet took first with a time of 3:34.55. The men’s relay team of Eckert, Arteaga, Gorman and Rariden took the top time at 3:09.21.
The IU Indy swim and dive team will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Southern Indiana and Northern Kentucky. The first event is set for 12:00 PM in the Natatorium.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Eastern Illinois men’s and women’s swim teams opened up their 2024-25 campaigns with a dual at IU Indy on Friday afternoon.
Summit League Athlete to Watch Dismas Dillon earned a silver medal finish in the men’s 50 freestyle with a time of 21.34. Dillon also contributed to another second-place finish in the 400 free relay as he combined forces with Zach Clark, Eddie Myers, and Conner Colston for a time of 3:13.13.
Myers also earned a second place finish in the 1,000 free (10:12.63) while Colston placed third in the 200 yard free (1:43.42).
Women’s Athlete to Watch Corinne Staneart added another silver medal finish with a time of 2:29.13 in the 200 breaststroke.
Meanwhile, Kaylan Ottosen picked up a pair of top three finishes with a second-place time in the 200 freestyle (2:02.99) and a third-place finish in the 100 free (56.70).
The Panthers will get two weeks off before their next meet at Valparaiso on Saturday, October 19th.
