Italy’s Leyre Casarin Verbally Commits to Miami Hurricanes for 2017

UPDATE: On February 4, 2017, SwimSwam received the following statement from Leyre Casarin:

“After a carefully and precisely evaluation and analysis about their swimming program I decided to null, cancel and invalidate my interest and verbal commitment for University of Miami.”

Leyre Casarin, the younger sister of Ianire Casarin, who joined University of Miami women’s team mid-season last year, has verbally committed to swim for the Hurricanes beginning in the fall of 2017.

“I’d like to report you that with a great pride I made a verbal commitment to join the University of Miami in the Fall 2017. MIAMI is a wonderful University and my best choice because I am sure that there I can do my best academically and athletically along with a welcoming environment and incredibly beautiful Campus ! I believe in the coaching staff and their amazing program and I am sure that working with them I can pursue and conquer all my goals ! grown ! and improve my capacities ! I am very excited to spend the next four years in MIAMI at the U. I am prideful to be called a CANE and CAN’T WAIT about this new adventure and to swim for Coach Andy and meet my sister Ianire already at Miami from Spring 2016. GO CANES !”

The Casarin sisters swim for Team Veneto near Venice, which has won the Italian Youth team championships every year since 2004. Leyre Casarin specializes in the shorter freestyle events, breaststroke, and sprint fly. Her converted times are:
