Idaho Women Earn First Conference Win Of Season Against Northern Colorado

MOSCOW, Idaho — The Idaho swim & dive team posted a 167.5-132.5 victory against conference foe Northern Colorado on Saturday afternoon at the Idaho Swim Center. The Vandals had 10 first-place finishers, and 16 other Vandals place in the top three to help lead Idaho to a 2-0 start to the season.

Idaho sophomore diver Lauren Wierschke scored the first points for Idaho, posting a third-place finish with a mark of 228.90 in the 3-meter diving event. Wierschke also posted a second-place finish in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 258.23.

Sophomore Ginger Kiefer tallied a team-high three first-place victories on the day. Kiefer dominated in the 1000-yard freestyle, taking first with a time of 10:26.73.

Kiefer placed first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.64) and the 200-yard IM (2:04.35), while also helping post a second-place finish (3:31.92) in the 400-yard freestyle relay with the team consisting of Isabelle BorkeMadelynn Butler, and Grace Ruble.

Idaho’s 200-yard medley relay team of Katy FoleyRylie Moxham, Ruble, and Ella Haskins finished in front at 1:45.94.

Ruble posted a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.55 after clocking in a third-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.50).

Foley came away with a win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.46 while taking second place in the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.04). Butler posted a first-place victory in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 53.20.

Idaho went 1-2-3 in the 50-yard freestyle with Butler hitting the wall first, clocking in a time of 24.38 followed by Haskins (24.48) and Borke (24.60). Borke also posted a first-place finish on the day in the 200-yard freestyle posting a time of 1:54.55.

Freshman Courtney Crawford posted her second win of the season, coming in first in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 2:23.07. She also finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.97) and 200-yard IM (2:09.99), while Holly Lenarz posted a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle.

Idaho will travel to Flagstaff, Arizona to take on Northern Arizona on Saturday, Nov. 2.

MOSCOW, Idaho — Northern Colorado went 0-2 last weekend at Washington State and Idaho.  

At Idaho, Madison Berg swept the diving competitions. She won the 3-meter springboard competition with a score of 243.22 and added a second gold with a 299.18 in the 1-meter. 

Mireya Ruiz followed Berg with a 233.47 on the 3-meter springboard.  

Violet Noel posted a 242.18 in the 1-meter springboard, collecting the bronze. 

 Martina Yuki Trionfetti, Maria ErokhinaEllyson Lombardi and Kyra Rabess placed second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:46.20), while the quartet of Sloane Antonetz, Birgitta IngolfsdottirPayten Irwin and Vitoria Simioni took bronze in a time of 1:46.52. 

 Emma On-The-Hill collected a silver in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:39.74. 

 Rabess claimed gold in the 500-yard freestyle and added a second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.78). 

 Antonetz swam a 59.49 in the 100-yard backstroke, placing second. 

Erokhina won the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:05.20 and added silver in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:23.53. She placed third in the 200-yard IM in a time 2:11.18.  

Ingolfsdottir tallied a runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.97). 

Lombardi paced the field in the 200-yard butterfly, with a time of 2:04.35. She swam 56.60 and placed second in 100-yard butterfly. 

Irwin chased Lombardi to the line in the 200-yard butterfly, registering second in a time of 2:05.64. She took home third in the 100-yard butterfly, with a time of 57.21. 

Trionfetti placed third in the 100-yard freestyle, .01 out of second at 53.31.  

Ariane Bernier recorded a 2:06.94 in the 200-yard backstroke and placed third.  

Lily Mayer earned a bronze in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:11.85.  

Trionfetti, Mayer, Lombardi and Rabess claimed the 400-yard relay in a time of 3:31.41. 

Lombardi claimed the only win for UNC against Washington State Friday. She swam a 2:03.09 to earn gold in the 200-butterfly. 

The Bears open their home schedule Friday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. against New Mexico State.
