Hamburg 2024 Releases Simulated Olympic Vision Ahead of Public Vote

As one of five cities in the running to host the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, Hamburg, Germany has revealed a new bidding campaign song and video to energize its constituents ahead of November’s referendum vote.

The visual presentation, along with catchy tune entitled “Ready For It”, displays simulated images of Olympic parks and stadiums, including renderings of the athletes’ village. The video is produced by German Phil Speiser of the SPYZR project.  As of this morning, the video has over 32,100 views on YouTube.

Earlier this month we reported how Hamburg’s German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) poll revealed that 63% of local residents support the city’s pursuit to host the world’s biggest sporting event.  Compare this to a recent survey in the city of Budapest, which resulted in just 46% in favor of their city’s hosting the Olympics in 2024.

For those opposed to a Hamburg bid, concerns about overall event costs were cited as the primary reason for not supporting the venture.  Bidding organizers have estimated Hamburg’s budget to be in the ballpark of around $2.3 billion (£1.5 million/€2.1 billion).

The referendum is to be held on November 29th and will ultimately decide if Hamburg, German should officially move forward with its bid for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. Residents will simply be asked to respond either ‘yes’ or ‘no’, with the DOSB ceasing to proceed with a Hamburg bid should the referendum response be negative.

With the DOSB having had to submit the name of its bid city to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) by September 15th, if Hamburg should not be publicly supported via the referendum, no other German city would be able to enter the bidding race in its place.

Referendum results should be made public on November 29th or 30th.  If Hamburg proceeds as a viable city, it will join Budapest, Los Angeles, Rome and Paris as the final five cities from which the IOC will vote on at its session in Lima, Peru in 2017.
