Madeleine Dunn, a senior at James Bowie High School in Austin, has committed to Tufts University.
“I am so excited to announce my commitment to swim and study at Tufts University! Thank you to my family, friends, teachers, and coaches for helping me get here! I can’t wait to be a Jumbo! Roll ‘Bos!!”
Dunn said she is excited to return to the Boston area, where she was born.
Dunn competed at the 2021 District Championships for her school–the regional and state meet are scheduled for later this year–and she placed 3rd in the 500 free and 5th in the 100 back. Dunn also swims club for Nitro Swimming. At the 2021 Futures Championships in West Fargo, she finished 12th in the 200m back and 24th in the 400m free.
She has USA Swimming Futures cuts in the 500 free, 1650 free, 100 back, and 200 back.
Best short-course yards times:
- 500 free: 4:58.48
- 1000 free: 10:18.17
- 1650 free: 17:06.48
- 100 back: 58.03
- 200 back: 2:01.06
Tufts University is a Division III school and member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference. At the 2020 NESCAC women’s championships–they weren’t held in 2021–Tufts placed 2nd out of 11 teams.
If Dunn can match her best times, she’ll break the team’s school records in both the 1000 and 1650 free, as well as the 100 back and 200 back. Dunn is a huge score for Tufts, especially given only 7 people out of their 38-person roster have distance or backstroke listed as a specialty.
Dunn joins Katharine Skelly for the class of 2022.
