Franklin, Nyad crack ESPN-W’s list of 10 impact female athletes of 2013

ESPN-W’s Impact-10 counts down the 10 female athletes who have made the biggest impacts on the sporting community over the past year. With 9 of the 10 names announced, two swimmers have cracked the list, with mult-time World Champion Missy Franklin taking 3rd and pioneering long-distance swimmer Diana Nyad sitting 4th.

Franklin won a record 6 gold medals at world championships this summer, while Nyad became the first person ever to swim from Cuba to Florida without the aid of shark cages, finishing her quest in early September.

The pair joins a loaded list that includes WNBA players Brittany Griner, Maya Moore, Elena Delle Donne and Candace Parker in addition to soccer’s Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan and golfer Inbee Park.

The number one name will be announced tomorrow. You can still vote on fan favorite until then – vote and read about the first 9 winners on the ESPN-W site.
