TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Franklin men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were crowned champions at the second annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships held at Vigo County Aquatic Center on February 14-16.
The Grizzlies men scored 723.5 points in the 20 events to hold off Rose-Hulman’s 696 point effort to claim the school’s first HCAC swimming and diving title. The Franklin women’s swimming and diving team earned its second straight HCAC title, totaling 796 points holding off second place Rose-Hulman (339 points).
The Franklin College men won 10 out of the 20 events at the three-day championship event. The Grizzlies were led by Charlie Hall who won three individual events at the meet. A total of seven conference records fell during the championship finals on the men’s side while other records fell during the preliminary sessions.
Hanover College placed third in the men’s team standings with 204 points and was followed by Anderson University (173.5), Transylvania University (169) and Manchester University (141).
On the women’s side, the Franklin women claimed victories in 18 total events over the course of the championship weekend. Out of those 18 championship event titles for the Grizzlies, 17 became new conference records in the championship finals at the event.
Anderson University placed third in the women’s team standings with 320 points and was followed by Hanover College (282), Transylvania University (265) and Manchester University (134).
