VILLANOVA, Pa. Four of the events in Saturday’s meet with Providence saw the Villanova Men’s Swimming team sweep the top three spots on the leaderboard, helping the group to a 119-80 victory at the Villanova Swim Complex.
Villanova (2-3) has now won back-to-back meets in the home pool this season. The victory also marks the 12th consecutive against Providence (2-4).
Nolan Danus led the team with a pair of individual wins in the 200 IM (1:56.21) and 200 Fly (1:54.35). He was the only Wildcat to win multiple individual events with five other Wildcats accounting for the rest.
Jake McIntyre logged a time of 15:39.07 in the 1650 Free, marking the sixth-fastest time in program history. The senior now holds seven of the ten fastest times for the program in that event.
Charlie Hinckley touched first in the 1000 Free with a time of 9:53.36 to lead a Villanova sweep of the top three spots. Patrick Casey followed him in second (9:55.99) with Aubrey Bowles taking third (10:05.80). Later on, Casey had the winning time in the 500 Free with a 4:49.39 showing. Just over a second separated Reid Hutcherson and McIntyre in the 200 Free. Hutcherson won in 1:44.93 with McIntyre taking second in 1:45.97.
Another 1-2 finish for the ‘Cats came in the 50 Free with Patrick Hemingway touching first (21.72) and Henry Gingrich following just two-hundredths of a seconds behind him in second (21.77). Danus led a pair of top-three sweeps with both of his wins. In the 200 IM, Richard Nolan was just four-tenths of a second behind him in second (1:56.65) with Henry Halloran finishing third (1:58.18). The 200 Fly saw Danus hold a slight edge over second-place Kevin Geist (1:54.80) with Ryan Maher in third (1:58.41).
The three fastest 200 Back times belonged to Villanova with Alex Hamill leading the pack in 1:54.78. Bowles touched second in 1:56.06 while Gavin Jones was third with a time of 1:56.53.
Mikey Thurk fell into a close race in the 100 Free with Providence’s Will Layden but finished second with a time of 47.34.
The A team of Hinckley, Thurk, Maher and Gingrich added on a win in relay action, winning the 200 Medley Relay in 1:34.99.
Villanova is back in action on Jan. 27 when it takes a road trip to Penn State. That meet is set to begin at 5 p.m. at the McCoy Natatorium in University Park, Pa.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams returned to action, albeit two different locations. The women’s team defeated Assumption at home in Taylor Natatorium, 169-76. The men’s team fell to BIG EAST foe Villanova, 119-80, on the road in Villanova, Pa.
The women had a successful day in the pool, earning first-place finishes in 11 of 12 individual events. Katie Winklosky paced the Friars with three victories overall.

Annie Gathof – 200-meter SC Butterfly (2:30.38) and 100-meter SC Butterfly (1:08.46)
Taylor Loud – 50-meter SC Freestyle (27.85) and 100-meter SC Freestyle (1:01.52)
Julia McCarthy – 200-meter SC Backstroke (2:29.28)
Courtney Reilly – 200-meter SC Breaststroke (2:51.07)
On the men’s side, Will Layden topped the field in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 47.03. Kevin Hood also scored a first-place finish on the day as he claimed victory in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.75). The duo stood as the lone Friars to win individual events against the Wildcats. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of McGovern Brown, Brian Cantin, Aidan Hughes and Layden placed first with a time of 1:25.70.
Both squads return to action on Saturday, Jan. 21 against Holy Cross. The dual meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. in Worcester, Mass.
