It’s rare when general political elections intersect with the world of swimming, but such was the case yesterday when John Aneralla was elected as the next mayor of Huntersville, North Carolina. Aneralla is a lifelong competitive swimmer and coach, active both in the water and on-deck.
Aneralla currently serves as the Community of School of Davidson Middle School swim coach, but has held volunteer roles for Davidson College, MAC Masters, Mecklenburg Aquatic Club and the Birkdale Neighborhood Swim Team in the past. He is also a 1984 graduate of the University of Georgia, where he received a full athletic swimming scholarship and was a letter-winner.
In his professional business career, Aneralla founded two companies – Buttonwood Advisory Group, Inc. and Bulldog Asset Management, Inc., each participating in the investor-relations and consulting industries.
Tapping into his both his swimming roots and investment expertise, Aneralla is an active member of the ‘Capital Campaign’ for SwimMAC Carolina. SwimMAC is a highly regarded professional and age group competitive swim club based in Charlotte, currently serving as the home to such elite stars as Ryan Lochte, Cullen Jones, Tyler Clary and Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace. The Capital Campaign is the club’s initiative to drive funding for needed repairs and upgrades to existing aquatic structures, as well as to brand new facilities in which the club will reside in the future.
He’s also the founder, and a past secretary and president, of the Bulldog Swim & Dive Club, a booster club supporting the Georgia aquatics programs.
I think it’s notable to mention that in the picture with John Aneralla is David Marsh, the Head Coach for the Women’s Olympic Team and big John Aneralla supporter.
