FL State Champion Bella English Commits To Florida State

Florida state champion Bella English will be sporting the garnet and gold next season, as she’s announced her verbal commitment to join the Florida State Seminoles. English, who swims club with Trinity Prep Aquatics, will head to FSU after graduating from Winter Park High School at the end of this school year.

English won her state title at last season’s Florida High School 4A State Championships, where she secured gold with her 1:03.31 in the 100 breast. That made her a back-to-back medalist in that event, as she was also the 3rd place finisher at the 2014-15 state meet.

English’s Top Times:

Event Best Time
100 breast 1:03.31
200 breast 2:19.94
50 free 24.86
200 IM 2:07.77

English’s time in the 100 breast has her within a half second of what it took to score at the 2016 ACC Championships, giving her the potential to be an immediate scorer for the Seminoles as a freshman.

Last season, FSU had 3 scorers in the breaststroke events at the ACC meet: Natalie Pierce, Sami Pochowski, and Caroline Neil. This season, Neil will complete her final year of eligibility, and Pochowski graduated after last season.

Pierce, on the other hand, will still be competing for the Noles when English arrives on campus. Last season, she was an A-finalist in the 100 breast and a C-finalist in the 200 breast.
