A milestone has been passed in the history of the beautiful new pool on the campus of the University of Toronto – Scarborough, as the first ever heat has been raced in the new pool on Tuesday.
According to Red Deer Catalina Swim Club coach Mandi Smith, the first ever race to be swum came this morning as part of a Swimming Canada “Junior Team” race simulation, and included her swimmer Rebecca Smith (pictured below), who won the first heat of the girls’ 200 free.
This camp includes 20 of Canada’s brightest young talents aged 14-16 (girls) and 14-17 (boys), and the camp is led by coaches Smith, Tom Rushton, Carl Simonson, Matt Bell, and Bill O’Toole.
The first races swum included heats of 200 frees (winners Javier Acevado and Rebecca Smith), 100 back (winners Tai Long Singh, Danielle Hanus) and 200 fly (winners Christian Ng, Sarah Darcel). The meet will move onto finals tonight.

Looks really fantastic. Hasn’t been a big public opening yet, but one of our writers (Mitch Bowmile) will be there when they do.
