Fanny Teijonsalo collected her fourth gold at the Finnish Short Course Championships on Sunday. Teijonsalo won the women’s 50 backstroke in a time of 27.60. Earlier in the competition she earned victories in the 50 and 100 butterfly as well as the 200 freestyle.
Jaakko Rautalin won the men’s 50 backstroke in a time of 24.84.
Two of the three races on the men’s side came down to the wire. Anton Herrala had a strong second half in the 100 freestyle overtaking Andrei Tuomola by an extremely narrow margin. Herrala won the event in a time of 48.83 followed by Tuomola who finished in a time of 48.86.
Kalle Pyykkonen had a three second lead over Eetu Piiroinen going into the final 100 meters of the 400 IM. Piiroinen made up a lot of ground in the freestyle leg of the event but did not have enough to catch Pyykkonen who hit the wall first in a time of 4:20.02. Piiroinen finished second recording a time of 4:20.56.
Laura Lajunen took the women’s 400 IM in a time of 4:45.76 five seconds ahead of the next competitor.
Hanna-Maria Seppala won the women’s 100 freestyle in a time of 54.00.
