Greer, South Carolina’s Nathan Delahunty has committed to swim for the University of Connecticut beginning next fall.

“I chose the University of Connecticut because from the moment I stepped on campus I felt like a part of the team. The coaching staff is great and I feel like they will help me achieve my potential as both a student and an athlete. The campus is beautiful and the school has everything I could ask for academically. I am very excited to be a husky!”

A three-time USA Swimming All-American from Riverside High School, Delahunty won both the 100y breast and 200y IM titles at the 2014South Carolina high school state championships. Delahunty swims for Y-Spartaquatics Swim Club in Duncan, SC. He was a member of all five YSSC relays at the YMCA Short Course Nationals, with the following notable splits:

  • 50y breast 25.76
  • 100y breast 56.11
  • 100y free 45.80

A state record-holder as a member of several different relays, Delahunty’s best individual performances include:

  SCY LCM
100 breast 57.25 1:07.02
200 breast 2:01.16 2:24.67
200 IM 1:51.96 2:09.38
400 IM 4:05.28 4:43.21
200 free 1:40.73 1:55.35

The Huskies will be able to put Delahunty to good use as soon as he arrives in Storrs. His 100 and 200 breast times would both have been A-final worthy at the 2015 AAC Championship, while his 200/400 IM and 200 free would have made their respective B finals. In the two-final format of conference championships, and with a field where only 250 points separated Number 1 from Number 4, the third-place Huskies will welcome Delahunty’s scoring potential. He will join Karl Bishop in the UConn class of 2020.
