FINA Officially Announces Dates, Locations, Clusters for 2015 World Cup Series

FINA has announced the full calendar of the 2015 FINA World Cup series that will once again try to capture the audience and participation spillover from the 2015 World Aquatics Championships as FINA was so successful doing after Barcelona in 2013.

The first meet will be held in Moscow, which is a short 90 minute flight west of Kazan, from August 11th-12th. This meet will begin just two days after the conclusion of competition at the World Championships, meaning that a significant portion of the competitors could choose to make the short flight to pad their coffers, much as what we saw happen in 2013.

The Moscow stop will be coupled with one in France to comprise the first cluster of the series.

The competition then proceeds to the Asian cluster, with events in Hong Kong (HKG), Beijing (CHN) and Singapore (SIN). Finally, the FINA Swimming World Cup comes to an end in the third cluster, comprising stops in Tokyo (JPN), Doha (QAT) and Dubai (UAE).

In total, prize money in excess of $2 million (USD) is expected across the 8 meets. The year’s series will finish on November 7th – later than it did in 2014, but earlier than in the two year’s prior to that.

The complete calendar of the FINA Swimming World Cup 2015 is as follows:

Cluster 1
Moscow (RUS)             August 11-12, 2015
Chartres-Paris (FRA)   August 15-16, 2015

Cluster 2
Hong Kong (HKG)        September 25-26, 2015
Beijing (CHN)               September 29-30, 2015
Singapore (SIN)           October 3-4, 2015

Cluster 3
Tokyo (JPN)                October 28-29, 2015
Doha (QAT)                November 2-3, 2015
Dubai (UAE)               November 6-7, 2015

“The 2015 edition of this World Cup has definitively a very attractive calendar, and will be attended by our best swimmers. Everything will be put in place to ensure great excitement and superb performances during this circuit, which became an important reference in the international swimming calendar”, considered the FINA President Dr. Julio C. Maglione.
