The University of Texas men’s swimming and diving program continues to bolster its roster with international talent, as Croatian diver Matej Nevescanin is signed and will be joining the Longhorns in the fall of 2025.
Nevescanin announced his commitment in late 2023, and reaffirmed it in the fall by signing a National Letter of Intent. Even with the shifting landscape of college swimming & diving, with roster limits making every commitment precarious, Nevescanin is poised to bring Texas diving back to the forefront of the national scene – contributing to their NCAA title defense hopes.
Nevescanin is a standout on the European diving circuit, earning multiple medals at the European Junior level, including gold on the one meter in 2023. He also is a European finalist at the senior level. Nevescanin has also found success on the world stage as well, having earned medals at the World Junior Diving Championship in 2021, 2022 and 2024. Recently, he qualified to his first senior international final at the recent Diving World Cup in Guadalajara, placing 11th.
His commitment to Texas marks a significant addition to the Longhorns’ diving squad, and he will be a valuable asset on the springboards. The Longhorns already boasted the highest scoring diving squad at the SEC Championships and they will return all scoring NCAA divers next season. Jacob Welsh was Texas’ highest scoring diver this year as just a freshman, so Nevescanin’s addition will help to get Texas right back near the top of NCAA men’s diving. His international experience and power on the boards will make him a scoring threat from day one.
In a recent interview with the Texas student paper, head diving coach Matt Scoggin said that the men’s team will carry 4 divers, and 18 swimmers, going forward under new roster limits.
Nevescanin will join the Longhorns’ class of 2029, which includes swimmers Aiden Hammer and Campbell McKean, as well as fellow Europeans Ksawery Masiuk, Rafael Fente-Damers, and Calvin Fry.
How old is this “freshman”? Love how the NCAA is no longer a feeder program for USA Swimming talent but rather has become a finishing school for the rest of the world’s elite talent. Sad.
He turned 18 in December.
Texas is not Cal
You might want to check out Masiuk’s birthday – should be able to read it clearly from your high horse.
Still 21 next fall, and he supposed to join the team last year, which is fine I guess. Cal freshman always around 23 Years old and there will be freshman in Cal who’ll be 24 in July next season 😅
I assume you’re referring to Tomac? He was a grad student. Hate to break it to you but Masiuk is going to be older his senior year than Tomac was this year.
Looking like TX FIRST and then all the rest for the foreseeable future. Coach B is awesome and Texas supports him and swimming.
Damn! Either Texas is still having roster cuts or the SEC must have approved having a JV team also.
It’s Lord of the Flies in Texas …. would not surprise me if Manny was told to leave as BB has an eye on some all platform rock star and promised their coach a job … suggesting this roster thing at the 40 is long from over
There was a recent article in the Texas student newspaper in which the diving coach said he is now limited to 4 roster spots on the men’s team
I mean but that seems okay? In a world where all of them are receiving scholarships, four is more than enough in dual meets. And then gives them a good chance to qualify even all four to the championships.
