Ella Passe, a junior at Visitation High School in Minnesota, has verbally committed to Duke for the class of 2027.

At the 2021 Minnesota High School Championship, Passe finished 2nd in the 200 free and won the 500 free. She also swims club for Riptide Swim Club. At the 2021 West Speedo Summer Championships in Irvine, she finished 11th in the 200m fly and 1500m free, 13th in the 400m free, and 15th in the 800m free.
Passe has USA Swimming Futures cuts in the 200 free, 1000 free, 100 back, 200 back, and 100 fly.

Duke is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. At the women’s 2021 ACC Championships, Duke finished 6th out of 12 teams. Last season, Passe would’ve been the 3rd-fastest 1000 freestyler on the team, 4th-fastest 200 backstroker, 6th-fastest 100 backstroker, and 8th-fastest 200 freestyler.
Many of the people ranked ahead of her will still be on the team, but some of Duke’s fastest swimmers, like senior Shayna Hollander and senior Lucy Callard, will not be on the team when Passe arrives.
Passe joins Molly Donlan, Ali Pfaff, and Claire McLean as Duke’s announced commits from the class of 2023. Pfaff is on track to score at ACC Championships in sprint free and back events, and McLean is also projected to score with her sprint free times at the Championships.
