Drexel men get first weekly CAA nods by sweeping men’s awards

The Drexel Dragon men had yet to be represented in the Colonial Athletic Association weekly swimming and diving awards, but this week the drought ended with a sweep of the men’s awards.

Sophomore Kyle Lukens picked up a pair of wins against Lehigh. He went 52.04 to win the 100 back and 50.61 to win the 100 fly, while also swimming on Drexel’s winning 400 medley relay. Fellow sophomore David Sanchez swept the diving events against Lehigh, scoring 263.40 on 1-meter and 316.58 on 3-meter. They were named Swimmer and Diver of the Week for the CAA men.

On the women’s side, Towson senior Kaitlin Burke was named Swimmer of the Week for the fifth time this season. Burke won the 1000 free in 10:03.64 in Towson’s tangle with Penn State and Saint Bonaventure. Meanwhile Northeastern diver Candace Young won both boards against Rhode Island, scoring 277.05 on 1-meter and 286.20 on 3-meter.
