The Georgetown University Hoyas women went 2-0, while Davidson’s men swept the day on Saturday in a Georgetown-hosted tri-meet.
The highlight of the day was three individual wins from Davidson’s Elise Lankiewicz, who won the 1000 free (10:27.75) and 200 free (1:53.18) in back-to-back races early, and then swam a 5:06.52 to win the 500 free later in the day.

Davidson Men’s Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Davidson swimming and diving team picked up six first-place victories en route to a 184.50-94.50 win over A-10 rival George Washington and a 174.50-118.50 win over Georgetown.
Davidson kicked the meet off with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Luke Burton, Spencer Gill, Brad Cameron and Kegley Brandon touched the wall in 1:34.14 to take first.
Clay Resweber took second in the 1,000-yard freestyle event swimming 9:45.14, only three seconds behind George Washington’s first place finisher Liam Huffman (9:42.61). Max Schimanski took fifth in the event posting a time of 9:53.39. Resweber claimed victory in the 500 yard freestlye touching the wall in 4:39.20.
Brandon Kegley collected third place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.43, while Cole Riggan(1:45.88) and Ben-Stewart-Bates (1:46.61) took fourth and sixth place respectively.
In the 100 backstroke, Luke Burton posted a time of 50.66 to claim victory. Teammates Chris Cardwell(54.52), Josh Schammel (52.22) and Adam Hunter (55.99) went 7-8-9 to round out the top-10 finishers in the event.
Led by Spencer Gill, the Wildcats swept the 100 yard breaststroke. Gill finished first with a time of 58.83. Grant Smith was next to touch the wall with a time of 58.96, while Taylor Willenbring (59.82) and Drew Gill(59.95) to round out the top-four finishers.
Similarly, in the 200-yard breastroke S. Gill (2:09.11), Smith (2:10.72) and League (2:12.86) went 1-2-3.
Riley League took third in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:56.57.
Brad Cameron claimed first in the 50-yard freestyle event with a time of 21:81, while Kegley took first in the 100-yard freestyle event swimming 47.53. Colin MacKay wasn’t far behind Kegley finishing fifth with a final time of 49.12.
The men closed a strong meet with a first-place victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Burton, Brad, Resweber and Kegley won the event with a time of 3:08.98. Riggan, Stewart-Bates, MacKay and Smith swam 3:16.98 to take fourth.
Davidson will return to the pool Jan. 31 with a trip to Gardner-Webb.
George Washington Men’s Release
WASHINGTON- The George Washington men’s swimming and diving team fell short against local rival Georgetown and Atlantic 10 foe Davidson in Saturday’s 16-event double-dual meet at the Hoyas’ Albert G. McCarthy, Jr. Pool.
The Colonials amassed 134.00 points against Georgetown, but fell short as the Hoyas finished with a score of 153.00. GW’s 94.50 points against Davidson also couldn’t catch the 153.00 posted by the Wildcats.
Senior Goran Koprivnjak paced the Colonials with four top-five finishes, including three race victories. Koprivnjak won the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.89), the 200-butterfly (1:54.12), and the 200-individual medley (1:56.98), before joining freshman Adam Drury, sophomores Ben Fitch and Bogdan Balteanu for a top finish in the 400-free relay.
Sophomore Liam Huffman posted a second-place performance in the 1000-free (9:42.61), one of four runner-up efforts and a trio of third-place performances that rounded out GW’s top finishes on the day. Junior Oliver Keegan’s time of 1:56.50 in the 200-fly marked the first second-place finish of the day, with Gustav Hokfelt’s 1:57.36 in the 200-backstroke and Huffman’s 4:42.18 in the 500-free also earning second place. The squad of senior Joe Lipworth, senior Adam Rabe, Fitch and Hokfelt took third in the 200-yard medley relay (1:37.52), while Hokfelt finished two tenths of a second ahead of Lipworth for third (54.12) and fourth (54.32) place, respectively, in the 100-backstroke. In another close finish, Balteanu (48.45) edged Drury (48.75) for third place in the 100-free.
GW returns home to take on local foe Howard University on Jan. 23 at 5 p.m. in the Charles E. Smith Center pool.
Georgetown Men’s & Women’s Release
WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University swimming and diving team returned to competition, defeating American University on Friday evening at McCarthy Pool on the campus of Georgetown University. The men’s team won 138-94, while the women’s team earned a 139-87 victory.
The Hoyas, who have not competed in over one month, got off to an impressive start as the women’s 400-yard medley relay team of sophomore Katie Duncalf (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley), freshman Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School), junior Erica Fabbri (Yardley, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) and freshman Bailey Page (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood) won with a McCarthy Pool record time of 3:56.89. Late in the meet, Duncalf broke the pool record in the 200-yard backstroke, winning with a time of 2:05.40.
“I thought we swam pretty well, especially for having not competed in a while,” Head Coach Jamie Holder said. “There were definitely some rusty swims, but I think we performed well, raced well and executed our race plans.”
The Blue & Gray won the first 17 events of the 24-event meet, as the men’s 400-yard medley relay squad of freshman Edward Spinelli (Brooklyn, N.Y./Polytech Prep Country Day), sophomore David Chung (Hillsborough, N.Y./Hillsborough), sophomoreMartin Vanin (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar) and sophomore Will Leach (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) won in a time of 3:20.21. Vanin and Leach each had individual success earning wins in the 50-yard freestyle and 100 yard freestyle, respectively.
On the women’s side junior Nicole Tronolone (Fayetteville, N.C./Terry Sanford) earned a victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle in the first time she competed in the event this season. Tronolone finished in 10:42.43, nearly six seconds in front of the rest of the field.
“That was her first 1,000 of the year,” Holder said. “She’s been dealing with some injuries so it was good to see her swim pain free and finish in a good time.”
Freshman Chase Ladman (San Marcos, Calif.) won the men’s 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:02.32. The Hoyas also had a pair of freshmen earn victories in the 200-yard freestyle, as Christine Ryan Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) won the women’s race and Daniel Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) won the men’s race. Page won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.51 and the 100-yard freestyle in 53.22, while Shana McLaughlin (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) won the 200-yard individual medley to continue a strong showing from the team’s freshmen.
Freshman Samuel Delise (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) continued the run, winning the 200-yard IM in 1:59.43. DeLise came back to win the 200-yard butterfly in 1:56.88.
Junior Lauren Ward (Marietta, Ga./Blessed Trinity Catholic) won the 200-yard butterfly finishing in a time of 2:09.96, while senior captain Casey Bandman (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) finishing less than a second behind in 2:10.63.
Sophomore Jared Cooper-Vespa (Orange, Conn./The Hopkins School) swept the diving events, earning victory in the men’s one-meter and three meter diving competition. Senior Lauren Kahan (Westport, Conn.) earned victory in the one-meter diving competition.
Georgetown returns to the pool on Saturday afternoon when they host George Washington University and Davidson at 1 p.m. The Hoyas will celebrate senior day for the squad’s 13 seniors, who will be competing for the final time at McCarthy Pool.
Davidson Women’s Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sophomore Elise Lankiewicz collected three first-place finishes as the Davidson swimming and diving team had a strong showing at George Washington. The Wildcats earned a 184 to 115 win over George Washington, but fell 169-130 to Georgetown.
Davidson kicked the meet off with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Kate Moreton, Katy Williams, Meredith Nakano and Kassie Shannon touched the wall in 1:49.56. Lauren Malachowski, Sarah Coats, Emma Tobey and Erica Clancy finished fourth with a time of 1:51.22.
Lankiewicz finished first in the 1,000-yard, 500-yard and 200-yard freestyle event. Lankiewicz posted a time of 10:27.75 in the 1,000 and was six seconds faster than the next swimmer. In the 500 she swam 5:06.52 to take first and touched the wall in 1:53.18 in the 200. In the 200, Angie Healy earned third place with a time of 1:57.72.
Williams and Coats went 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke. Williams swam 1:07.23, and Coats clocked a time of 1:08.53. Coats went on to pick up another second place finish in the 200 IM, clocking a 2:11.06.
Nakano placed second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:08.16, while Anna Bullock touched the wall in 2:12.60 to claim seventh place.
Williams and Nakano went 1-2 in the 100 butterfly event. Williams claimed fist with a time of 57.81, while Nakano finished next in 58.21.
Shannon took second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.97, just narrowly missing first-place by six-tenths of a second. Erica Clancy rounded out the top-five finishers, swimming 25.33 to take fifth.
Williams earned second place in the 200 breaststroke event clocking a 2:26.67, while Coats placed fourth with a time of 2:27.65.
On the diving board, Megan Cypcar took second in the 1-meter diving event, while Summer Abiad took third in the 3-meter diving event.
The Wildcats finished out the meet with a strong second-place performance in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The team of Lankiewicz, Nakano, Shannon and Healy turned in a 3:33.18 time.
Davidson will return to the pool Jan. 31 with a trip to Gardner-Webb.
George Washington Women’s Release
WASHINGTON – The George Washington women’s swimming and diving team dropped both ends of a 16-event double-dual meet against the host Hoyas and Atlantic 10 rival Davidson on Saturday afternoon at Georgetown’s Albert G. McCarthy, Jr. Pool.
The Colonials’ 106.00 points against Georgetown was not enough, as the Buff and Blue fell shy of the Hoyas’ 193.00 points in the contest. GW amassed 115.00 points to Davidson’s 184.00 to round out the day’s competition.
The Colonials were paced by race victories in the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard breaststroke by sophomore Carly Whitmer (2:06.82) and senior Janica Lee (2:26.59), respectively.
Freshman Abigail Fusco produced a second-place effort in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.80 after nabbing third place in the 200-yard medley relay with classmate Hannah Kopydlowski, Lee and senior Morgan Zebley in a time of 1:50.54. Junior Madison Reinker contributed a runner-up finish of her own in the 500 free in 5:09.05, as well as a third-place performance in the 1,000 free (10:36.43).
Junior Lauren Steagall and Lee finished the 100 breast with less than a 10th of a second between them, earning third (1:08.66) and fourth (1:08.73), respectively.
Freshman Phoebe Turner, junior Maggie Hofstadter, sophomore Lauren Law and Kopydlowski rounded out the day’s best finishes with a third-place effort in the 400-yard free relay with a time of 3:40.19.
