BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield women’s swimming and diving team closed out dual season with a victory against cross-valley rival Fresno State on Friday afternoon. The Roadrunners handed the Bulldogs a 166-122 loss as CSUB defeated Fresno State for the first time since 2015.

Notables

  • Mikayla Popham moved into third in CSUB’s Division I history in the individual career victories category. With three wins on Friday against Fresno State, Popham now has 49 career victories, an accomplishment the senior has done in just three years of competition.

Quotes from Director of Swimming Chris Hansen

  • “I didn’t know Mikayla was going to be as diverse as she was when she came here. We didn’t even get her until the last minute; she was committed to another school, but it didn’t work out there and she called us.”
  • “I don’t know if anyone had a bad swim today.”
  • “Mikayla winning three more races and Lorena Jerebic and Chelaine Van Der Westhuizen both earning a couple wins was huge.”
  • “Our secret hidden gem this weekend was Holly DiSimone. To win this meet, we needed people to step up and snag some seconds and thirds. Holly, Jessica FrancoHannah Marsh, and Kylie Ney really did that well, but Holly’s times…Holly just got herself on our 800 free relay.”
  • Danielle Albright really did well and seeing Nicole Horton step up and race Mikayla, as a freshman, was really good to see.”

Women’s Results

  • Popham picked up another triple, winning the 200 free (1:50.90), 100 free, (51.86), and 500 free (5:03.34). She also helped the 200 medley relay team of Popham, Van der Westhuizen, Jerebic, and Horton lead off with a win (1:45.32).
  • Van der Westhuizen tallied a double in the 100 breast (1:03.32) and 200 breast (2:17.63).
