2014 was a very good year for Brooklynn Snodgrass. As a freshman she won the 200 backstroke at the NCAA. She went on to collect a bronze in the 50 backstroke at the Commonwealth Games and swam in the final of the 100 backstroke eventually finishing eighth.
This summer will most likely not be so fruitful. After finishing fourth in the 100 backstroke and eighth in the 200 backstroke she has come down with an undisclosed illness that has caused her to pull out of the Canadian Trials. The illness is significant enough that she did not make the trip to Toronto.
Because she will miss the trials her chances of qualifying for the national team this summer are slim to none. She would have to hope that there will still be an open spot in the 200 backstroke after the conclusion of the trials and than she may have a chance at a discretionary nomination.
Considering that both Hilary Caldwell, Genevieve Cantin and Dominique Bouchard are set to swim the event a spot in the event the opportunity for a discretionary nomination is not likely.
You never know, it could be the best thing for her in the end. Maybe she’ll focus her training on Olympic Trials, like Grevers did in 2011, and have the best year of her career! Get well and good luck, Brooklynn!

Swimming is wonderful but it won’t pay the bills. It is about time that Swim Canada considered the importance… Read more »

Was she poisoned by Atkinson for being based out of the states?!
