The Colgate Raiders have raided Illinois for their latest verbal commitment, New Trier butterflyer/freestyler Samantha Adams.

Adams could have immediate scoring potential in the 100 fly at next year’s Patriot League Championships, and if she continues her rapid ascent, could be in scoring range in several other events as well.

Adams’ Top Times (SCY)

  • 100 fly: 57.35
  • 100 free: 52.25
  • 200 fly: 2:08.95
  • 50 free: 24.63

Based on the times from the 2015 Patriot League Championships, Adams would have scored in the B final of the 100 fly, and would have been just tenths away from scoring in the 100 free and 200 fly.

Making the outlook brighter, though, is Adams’ improvement curve over the past three years. She’s taken her 100 fly from a 1:00.81 in 2013 to that 57.35 this year. Her 100 free has dropped two and a half seconds in that time, and her 50 free more than a second.

But her biggest improvements have come in the 200 fly, where she went from a 2:16.23 in 2013 to a 2:08.95 this past season.

She, along with current sophomore Maggie Carney, could be Colgate’s top threats in the 200 fly when Adams starts her freshman year next fall.

Adams competes for the New Trier Swim Club out of New Trier, Illinois. She also competed for New Trier High School the past three seasons (helping the team win the Illinois State Championship in 2012 and 2013), but will not compete in the high school arena this year, instead swimming the full year with New Trier Swim Club.

“I chose Colgate because of the amazing academics, team and coaching staff,” Adams told SwimSwam. “I am so excited to join the Raider family! Colgate is the perfect place for me! Go ‘gate!”
