Chocolate Milk Designated Official Recovery Beverage of USA Swimming

USA Swimming has once again partnered with the BUILT WITH CHOCOLATE MILK™ campaign. As the “Official Recovery Beverage of USA Swimming,” the partnership will highlight the important role that chocolate milk plays in the post-workout ritual of all competitive swimmers through product sampling at USA Swimming events, digital and social media content and branded exposure in Splash Magazine.

“So many elite and National Team athletes trust chocolate milk for their recovery because it’s backed by science, so this partnership is a natural fit for USA Swimming,” said Matt Farrell Chief Marketing Officer of USA Swimming. “We have an important history with the BUILT WITH CHOCOLATE MILK campaign, as they make an impact in athlete performance and promotionally by investing in athletes, scientific studies and then spreading the word through national campaigns. We’re proud to partner with them to help educate the importance of post-exercise recovery.”

Olympic medalists Tyler Clary and Jessica Hardy have joined the BUILT WITH CHOCOLATE MILK team in their national marketing campaign.

The new BUILT WITH CHOCOLATE MILK campaign features Clary and Hardy in arresting TV, print and digital advertising debuting March 27. The 30-second TV spot captures the athletes swimming as they would in competition – muscles flexing, tightening and rippling – with one unique difference: there is no water. The spot celebrates the machine that is the human body – one that is BUILT WITH CHOCOLATE MILK, unobstructed by water.

“We’re proud to partner with two of the nation’s brightest medal hopefuls and share why chocolate milk is the recovery beverage of the world’s best athletes,” said Miranda Abney, Marketing Director at the Milk Processor Education Program, the group behind the BUILT WITH CHOCOLATE MILK campaign. “We look forward to supporting Tyler and Jessica throughout the year while giving others an inspirational look at how they’re preparing to take on the world.”

Through the partnership with USA Swimming, receives assets such as advertisements in Splash Magazine (a 275,000 circulation bi-monthly publication sent direct to USA Swimming members), the right to use USA Swimming marks, provide product sampling at USA Swimming events and digital promotions through USA Swimming’s official app, Deck Pass. Although the partnership may be promoting the consumption of more sugar in the public, chocolate milk is an ideal post-training or exercise drink.

1. Chocolate milk has a high concentration of protein needed for recovery.
2. Being a liquid it is quicker digested than solid foods.
3. Low-fat chocolate milk is digested even faster due to the absence of fat (which takes a long time to break down).
4. Generally, the simple carbs in chocolate milk are broken down immediately if it is drunk straight after training. This also places less stress on the immune system as additional energy is provided to perform important bodily functions.

I agree about the refined sugars…good point. People who cut out refined sugar and refined carbs see huge health benefits.

This is the best joke i have heard in a long long time – Dairy products have never been proven to help recovery or health in general . Its backed up by ” Science ” because it follows a way bigger agenda than just Usa Swimming . I never believed in anything when backed up by science – especially concerning OUR Health . I never drink that stuff and never will because by removing processed sugar products ( check the real effects of refined white sugar on health – its been out there fo years !!!)and dairy products , many beneficial effects occurred in my daily life such as : better recovery , deeper sleep , no kidney or liver… Read more »

Is there any concern about promoting the consumption of chocolate milk considering the high sugar content in this beverage? There is a lot of information out there indicating that sugar is very inflammatory and leads to many of the today’s health issues like type 2 diabetes, obesity, etc. Not to mention the fact that many new healthy diets suggest that dairy may not be all that good for you either. I wonder if there are healthier alternatives for recovery that don’t contain so much sugar or dairy???

Hey MCG , many alternatives exist for the ones who are digging enough , trying their own natural recipes like for example : fresh prepared smoothies with no added sugar or anything processed . It could be a solid natural juice ( vegetable or fruits ) whiten which u add some wheat grass powder , and other natural recovery elements like : cinnamon , cardamom , turmeric , …. or u need to find the best VIT C preparation ( a guy called Markus Rothkranz sells that on his website , check it – its an unbelievable recipe . he also sells Super Green formulas composed of the best green natural elements found in nature ) . Recovery for me… Read more »
