The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team opened the dual meet portion of its season with a 160-83 win over Stony Brook, Saturday afternoon in Suydam Natatorium.
The Blue Devils won nine events on Saturday, led by Abbey Keane and Cassidy Stotler both winning two individual events and the divers taking the top-two spots on both boards.
CCSU returns to action next weekend with a two-day dual at New Hampshire. Friday’s session begins at 5:00 pm with the Saturday competition beginning at 11:00 am.
RELAYS
- Katrine O’Leary, Cassidy Stotler, Megan Dunningan and Kelly Stotler opened the meet with a win in the 200-medley relay, dropping a time of 1:48.70 to win by a second
- O’Leary, Kelly Stotler, Gabby Spaciano and Shannon Welcome closed the meet with a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay
FREESTYLE EVENTS
- Keane won both the 1,000 and 500 freestyle events, pulling a way for a 10:30.82 finish in the 1,000 that bested the field by 18 seconds
- Welcome and Spaciano placed second and third in the 200-freestyle
- O’Leary went 25.07 to place second in the 50-freestyle
- Spaciano (54.2), Kelly Stotler (54.25) and Lauryn Cowing (55.32) placed second, third and fourth respectively in the 100-freestyle
STROKES
- Cassidy Stotler led a 1-2-3 sweep of the 200 IM, with a swim of 2:09.93
- Gabi Wroblewski placed second in the event with a 2:21.84, followed by Morgan O’Hara at 2:14.89
- Wroblewski picked up a win in the 200-butterfly, touching at 2:11.94
- Sophie Milhomens led a clean sweep of the 200-backstroke, going 2:07.02, and followed by Megan Dunningan (2:09.57) and Nathalie Pena (2:1.50)
- Cassidy STotler captured the 200-breaststroke, with a time of 2:23.93
DIVING
- Jewelle Maziarz won the 1-meter diving, scoring 252.23, leading three Blue Devils in the top four spots.
- Zoe Baker was second at 219 points and Kaitlyn Carroll was third at 210.54 points
- Baker took the top-spot in the 3-meter event, scoring 229.20, leading a 1-2-3 sweep for CCSU
- Carroll scored 224.25 to take second and Maziarz was third at 216.60

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Stony Brook swimming and diving competed in its first meet of the 2023-24 season, falling 160-83 in a dual meet competition at Central Connecticut State on Saturday.
The Seawolves earned four total first-place finishes on Saturday, doing so in the 200-yard freestyle, the 50-yard freestyle, the 100-yard freestyle, and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshman Sylvia Walker finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a total time of 1:43.85, finishing with her best lap at 29.11.
- Sophomore Michelle Vu raced to a 24.66 time and won the 50-yard freestyle by .41 seconds.
- Walker won the 100-yard freestyle by 1.2 seconds, finishing with a 53.00 result.
- MaryKate Conway, Ashley Chui, Vu and Walker teamed up to win the 400-yard freestyle relay, as a time of 3:33.89 was good for the victory.

“The first meet of the season is always a great litmus test as to where we are early in the season,” said head coach Mark Anderson. “There was a lot to be excited about today and a lot we can work on as we go further into our season. On to Sacred Heart next weekend!”
