The CBDA (Brazilian Confederation of Aquatic Sports) have come up with loose guidelines for selection to the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, stemming from the technical meeting held yesterday prior to the beginning of the meet.

Per the report, they will use the 2016 FINA points table to select swimmers for both the World Championships and Junior World Championships coming up this summer. It looks as though they will identify the eight best swims given FINA points, and name those swimmers automatically to the respective teams. The CBDA notes they have the ability to increase the number of swimmers going to either meet, with the priority going to the World Championships over Junior Worlds. The teams will be determined after the meet, reportedly on May 11th.

In the meeting they also note that there will be ‘A’ and ‘B’ finals, and that swimmers fighting for spots on the Junior Worlds team will swim in a separate finals heat after the ‘A’ and ‘B’ finals in each event.

The schedule for the meet will have prelims begin at 9:30 AM on all days other than Saturday, when they’ll begin at 10:30. Finals will begin at 5:30 PM Tuesday through Thursday, and then 7:00 on Friday and Saturday to accommodate SporTV. Rio de Janeiro is one hour ahead of Eastern Standard Time and four hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time.

Day 1 will feature the 100 fly, 400 free, 100 breast and the 4×50 free relays for both genders.
