Carmel High School Girls Become First High School 200 Medley Relay Team Under 1:40

They have done it again! The relay team from Carmel High School of Sammie Burchill, Alex Clarke, Veronica Burchill, and Amy Bilquist have lowered their national high school relay record from last night to become the first high school team in history to break 1:40 at 1:39.25. Carmel is on track to win their 29th consecutive state title as a team. That is the second national high school record of the meet and the ninth Indiana state record of the meet.

The craziest thing about this relay is that they didn’t field their four fastest swimmers. Last night, Claire Adams posted a new state record and the third fastest 15-16 100 backstroke time in history with her time of 51.99, but her split at the 50 was faster than Burchill’s relay split. The depth Carmel has on their roster is incredible.

In addition to the National High School Record, they also broke USA Swimming’s 15-18 NAG Relay record held by SwimMAC Carolina at 1:39.27.

Prelims splits:

  • Sammie Burchill – 25.51
  • Alex Clarke – 29.07
  • Veronica Burchill – 23.63
  • Amy Bilquist – 22.12

Final splits:

  • Sammie Burchill – 25.39
  • Alex Clarke – 29.00
  • Veronica Burchill – 23.31
  • Amy Bilquist – 21.55
