There wasn’t much action for the Canadians during Monday night’s finals, there were only four Canucks that competed.
Katerine Savard finished fifth in the women’s 100 butterfly. Savard posted a time of 57.97, which is 66 one-hundredths slower than the 57.31 that she swam in the preliminaries. Even if she would have matched her Canadian record it would have only moved her into fourth.
“I’m not really happy about my race tonight, but I still did a best time yesterday and a Canadian record, so it’s a good point in an international meet like that,” Savard told Swimming Canada. “It’s my best rank and I’m just going to work to be better in the next few years.”
Noemie Thomas finished seventh in the same event posting a time of 58.13. Thomas’s season’s is a 57.96, which she posted in June.
“To have two Canadians swimming in the final is a great achievement. Both girls were in their first international final at the world level in the 50-m pool. They may not be happy with their final positioning, but you’ve got to look at where they’ve come from and where they’re going as they progress to (the 2016 Olympics) in Rio,” said John Atkinson, Swimming Canada’s Director of High Performance.
Sinead Russell just missed making the final in the women’s 100 backstroke. Russell finished ninth in a time of 1:00.37.
Charles Francis finished 16th in the 100 backstroke posting a time of 54.96.
