Caeleb Dressel shared a video on Instagram on Wednesday, April 12, which features him swimming freestyle into the wall, wearing a snorkel and paddles. This post is the second time in a week that Dressel has shared footage of himself in the pool. Both posts have been in the University of Florida’s outdoor training pool and the first featured Dressel’s dog, Jane.

Before these posts, Dressel had been periodically active on social media but took a noticeable step back in the months that followed his early departure from the 2022 World Championships last summer in Budapest. Before leaving Budapest, Dressel won gold in the 50 butterfly and the 4×100 freestyle relay. Dressel is one of the most decorated and successful swimmers in the sport right now. He won three individual and two relay medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, has collected a total of 17 long course World Championships medals, and holds the world record in the long course 100 butterfly, and short course 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, and 100 IM.

The first bit of news that came out in the months that followed Dressel’s surprise departure from the World Championships came in September 2022. At that point, Dressel shared that he had not swum since the swim meet in the summer and that while he was happy without swimming, he did really miss it. A few weeks later Dressel was spotted at an NFL game doing promotional work for one of his sponsors, NOBULL. He was notably wearing a medical show and was using crutches at that event.

The first real swimming-related news that broke about Dressel this year was in March 2022 when Alex Pussieldi reported that he was training again with the University of Florida. Various sources reported that while he wasn’t entered in the competition, he was present at the Fort Lauderdale Pro Swim Series, and was training with his fellow Gators. The posts that Dressel shared in the pool seem to confirm that he is training again, but it’s not clear how much or how intensely, as the Dressel camp continues to be tight-lipped about his return to the water. The most recent video was captured by University of Florida Assistant Swim Coach Jack Szaranek.

It remains to be confirmed whether Dressel will enter into competition at the 2023 US World Championships Trials, which will begin in a little over two months in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Good for him. If he enjoys it we may see him in Paris.

I reread your comment several times and it still doesn’t make sense to me. I must be dumb.

It made less sense the more I read it

I think they meant to say *top notch. And they’re implying Dressel was exaggerating his mental health issues as part of some mind game. It’s an odd comment but I understood it on the first read.

If Dressel gets into prime shape Popovici is screwed. If Dressel is returning he’s gonna want it more than ever, and he’s gonna be more dangerous than ever

Could see him entering Nationals or something this summer instead of World Champs to ease back into things, have a solid low pressure meet there, and then go all in for Paris

i GUESS THIS IS THE INEVITABLE RAZZLE ‘N’ DAZZLE before he gets down to hard work, grinding it out; drylands to break the mere mortal, and practicing starts that are the way back to the podium. Stay Calm.. We’ll see if it happens.
