British Swimming Coaches Association founder Charlie Wilson passes away

Coach Charlie Wilson, a well-respected swimming coach and founder of the U.K.’s British Swim Coaches Association, has passed away, the BSCA reports.

Wilson died last Thursday after an extended illness, according to the BSCA. Wilson was a part of the BSCA’s inaugural meeting back in 1965.

He coached with the Bedford Modernians, and helped power Brian Brinkley to back-to-back Olympic appearances in 1972 and 1976.

The British Swimming federation issued its condolences on its website yesterday, calling Wilson an “influential coach who shared his experience with new coaches and was always available to share information during ASA Coaches Courses.” You can read the full post on the British Swimming website here.
