McKenna Newsum-Shoenberg
McKenna swam for Cherry Creek High School for four years, serving as the team captain during her senior year. She earned all-American honors in 2011, and academic all-American honors in 2009, 2010 and 2011, while helping her team to three state championships. McKenna was involved with Special Olympics and BSU at Emory. She is passionate about civil rights and social issues and hopes to become a lawyer.

2014-2015
At the Miami Invite McKenna placed 5th in the 200 fly and 9th in the mile. At UAAs, McKenna won both the mile and 500 free. She also placed 4th in the 200 fly. At NCAAs, McKenna won her first national title in the 200 fly in a time of 2:00.43. She also placed 7th in the 500 free(4:51.37) and 9th in the mile(16:58.27).
2013-2014
At the Miami Invite McKenna swam season bests in the events she swam and placed 2nd in the mile and 4th in the 500 free. McKenna swam through UAAs to train for NCAAs, and it clearly paid off. She placed 2nd in the 200 fly(2:02.16) and 5th in the 500 free(4:52.08). She also swam the mile in a time of 16:52.35.
2012-2013
McKenna again attended the Miami Invite where she placed 6th in the mile and 12th in the 500 free. At UAAs, McKenna placed 3rd in the 500 free and 11th in the 200 free. At NCAAs, she placed 6th in the mile breaking the 17 minute mark in a time of 16:58.71. She also placed 11th in the 200 fly(2:04.67) and 12th in the 500 free(4:56.92).
2011-2012
McKenna’s first taper meet at Emory was the Miami Invite where she earned season bests in all the events she swam. She placed 4th in the mile and 7th in the 500 free. At UAAs, McKenna won both the mile and 500 free, swimming both in record time for her. At NCAAs, she placed 5th in the mile(17:04.36) and 14th in the 500 free(4:59.69).
