Club Swimming

Josh Brown, currently 17, began his swimming career at age eight on a small club team. He quickly learned that he had a passion for the sport and he was good at it! He and his twin brother Jake decided to move to a year-round swimming program in order to excel to new heights. They joined the Talbot County YMCA Stingrays swim team on Maryland’s Eastern Shore under the leadership of Head Coach George Higley and eventually Assistant Coach Dan Brown (who also happens to be Josh’s father). Josh also swims with the local summer league, Talbot Swim Club, and is coached by Adam Friedman.

Josh has had many highlights during his club swimming career. Some of his favorites include achieving AAAA times in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle for 13-14 boys, and placing second in the USA Maryland State Swimming Championships in those same events; being a three-time YMCA National qualifier; and setting the most club records for his team.

High School Swimming

Currently a junior at Queen Anne’s High School, Josh has been swimming for his high school team since his freshman year under Head Coach Margaret Macedonia. He was named team captain this past season. The highlights of his high school career include placing second in the 50 freestyle as a sophomore at the Maryland State High School Championship Meet, as well as winning the state title in the 50 freestyle his junior year. He also won the outstanding junior athlete award and broke many varsity team records. Josh enjoys bringing leadership to his high school team and helping new swimmers learn technique.

Looking Back and Looking Ahead

Josh has a great love of the sport because he has been blessed by swimming for family-oriented teams and the mentorship of amazing coaches.   The bonds Josh has forged with fellow swimmers on his team and other teams is a big part of the reason why he loves swimming so much. For Josh, it’s not just about breaking records or getting best times, he loves the atmosphere and swimming is a way of life.

Josh is very excited for his future in college swimming. He plans on majoring in sports management with the intention of one day being a college swim coach.
