The Sun Devils tacked another sweep onto their impressive weekend at the 2025 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships. After first sweeping the team standings with the men winning their third straight conference title and the women the first in program history, Arizona State swept the individual swimming honors for the Championships.
Caroline Bentz and Jonny Kulow were named the Swimmers of the Championships. Bentza senior transfer to the Sun Devils, swept her individual events. She won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke in lifetime bests of 21.77/51.22 and swam a season-best 1:51.89 in the 200 backstroke. Kulow won gold in the 50 and 100 freestyle, setting championship records of 18.64/41.07. His third event was the 200 freestyle, where he placed second in a personal best 1:32.41.
Julia Ullmann and Lucien Vergnes won Freshman Swimmers of the Meet. Both are international students. Ullmann, who hails from Switzerland, made the podium in her three individual events, including winning gold in the 100 butterfly with a lifetime best 51.40. She hit lifetime bests in her other events, the 50 and 100 freestyle, swimming 22.19/48.82 for bronze in both events. Vergnes made two ‘A’ finals, earning his highest finish in the 100 backstroke with a silver medal (45.46). He also appeared in the 200 IM ‘A’ final, taking 5th in a lifetime best 1:44.38. His final event was the 200 breaststroke and he won the ‘B’ final, clocking 1:54.51.
For the diving awards, TCU swept the Diver of the Championship honors with Anna Kwong and David Ekdahl. Kwong, a senior, won the 3-meter board with a TCU record 372.75 points. She was the runner-up on the 1-meter board with 320.95 points, less than five points out of first place. She earned a third ‘A’ final appearance on platform, taking 8th with 229.30 points.
Like Kwong, Ekdahl is a senior and TCU program record holder. He’s back on TCU’s roster after not competing during the 2023-24 season and picked up right where he left off, winning his third 1-meter conference title. He previously won in 2022 and 2023. He also earned gold on the 3-meter board, tallying 392.10 points to win a close race by 3.55 points.
Freshman Diver of the Championships went to Utah’s Callie Eaglestone and Arizona’s Colin Agor. Eagleston made three ‘A’ flight appearances, taking third on the platform (240.75), fourth on the 3-meter (306.90), and fifth on the 1-meter (293.65). Agor’s best result was his fifth-place finish on the 3-meter board (347.00). He earned ‘B’ flight appearances in the two other diving events, winning the ‘B’ final on 1-meter and taking 12th on the platform.
