2022 B1G WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIPS

There are just a few top swimmers not competing in prelims on the last day of the women’s Big Ten Championships: Kathryn Ackerman in the 200 back, Elizabeth Moore in the 200 breast and Alyssa Graves in the 200 fly.

Ackerman, who has the 13th-fastest 200 back time in the conference at 1:56.11, isn’t swimming that event. The sophomore performed much better nationally in the 400 IM last season, finishing 7th at NCAAs, compared to just 46th in the 200 back.

She will swim the 1650 free instead, where she is seeded with a no-time.

Ackerman swims for Michigan, but the team has two other swimmers with faster times in the conference competing in the 200 back: Casey Chung (1:55.09) and Mariella Venter (1:55.20). Ackerman instead is swimming in the 1650, which will mark her third and final individual event, after the 500 free and 400 IM.

No. 11 conference-wide in the 200 breast, Moore (2:12.45) is also not swimming at all on Saturday. She’s the fastest Wisconsin swimmer in the event, and the next-fastest Wisconsin swimmer is No.14 Jenna Silvestri (2:13.13). Moore has not competed at these championships.

Finally, No. 10 conference-wide in the 200 fly, Graves (1:58.49) will not be competing. She will be competing later in the day in the 1650 free. There are two Ohio State swimmers that are faster than Graves in the 200 fly–Kristen Romano (1:57.25) and Aislinn Walsh (1:58.01)–both of whom are competing tonight.

There are some swimmers who are ranked among the fastest in the conference, but who aren’t competing in certain events because they are back-to-back. For example, Maggie MacNeil isn’t competing in the 200 back because she’s in the 100 free, and conversely Anna Peplowski isn’t competing in the 100 free because she’s in the 200 back.

Prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. CT.
