The Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich organization seeks a Head Swim Coach to coordinate, manage, and evaluate Barracudas swim team. They will also be part of planning and implementing BGCG’s character-building and leadership programs. Reporting to the VP of Programs and Youth Development, the Head Coach will supervise the Barracudas Competitive Team and assistant coaches. This position includes meet management as part of the Fairfield County Westchester Swim League, preparing the line ups, creating practice workouts and building team spirit and perfecting stroke techniques. They must be an energetic, positive, organized, and team-oriented professional who will be a strong role model to members, families, and staff.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Head Swim Coach will create a transformative experience that builds loyal participants and families, energizes employees, engages partners, and stimulates program growth and innovation. This position supports the work of the Club, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, academic enrichment, and healthy lifestyles.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of 5 years of aquatic leadership experience and pool management preferred.
- Must have a demonstrated record of accomplishment in the area of competitive aquatic teams and revenue generating programs.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
- Current American Red Cross certifications in First Aid, CPR /AED and Lifeguard/Swim Instructor required.
- Strong computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Publisher and Access. Experience with Meet Manager also a plus.
- Demonstrates exceptional time management abilities, capable of managing various tasks concurrently and meet challenging timelines.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plan, develop and schedule mission-driven program offerings within the framework of policies and procedures established by the Association.
- Work collaboratively with competitive aquatic coaches and participants to drive program enrollment and growth while ensuring a high-quality, safe and transformative BGCG experience.
- Monitor and engage in family and participant communications.
- Troubleshoot/resolve member issues professionally and promptly.
TEAM LEADERSHIP
- Hire, train, coach and supervise all direct reports of aquatic staff and volunteers.
- Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Facilitate communication and provide leadership.
- Model relationship-building skills in all interactions to execute exemplary customer service.
FISCAL AND RISK MANAGEMENT
- Ensure accountability and compliance with all BGCG safety standards and best practices, and regulatory health and safety requirements in the aquatic facilities including safety checks, emergency drills, and in-service training.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive, association wide year-round training plan for designated areas of focus related to lifeguards, swim instructors, trainers, to include prerequisites and opportunities for American Red Cross certifications. Ensure all in-service and audit requirements are up-to-date and training calendar is followed.
- Responsible for the development of an annual budget and ensure successful execution of the plan within association guidelines and practices.
OPERATIONS
- Ensure the aquatic environment is well-maintained, safe and clean, following public health guidelines and BGCG practices.
- Take ownership of pool operations including but not limited to appropriate water quality, chemical testing, pump room duties, and required chemicals.
- Work collaboratively with competitive aquatic coaches, swim coordinator, and participants to drive program enrollment and growth while ensuring a high-quality, safe and transformative BGCG experience
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
Current American Red Cross certifications in First Aid, CPR /AED and Lifeguard/Swim Instructor required. CPO preferred and/or will need to complete within 90 day onboarding.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to function for more than three hours on your feet
- Must be available to work some weekends and evenings
Current schedule is
Tuesday and Thursday 7:30 – 8:30PM
Friday 6:45 – 8:30 PM
Sunday 9:00 – 10:30AM
4-6 in season meets which are 1 day only and Championships first week of March
