Orono, Maine — The University of Maine women’s swimming & diving team swept the podium in all events, capturing 14 victories, in its home opening meet with Maine Maritime Academy.

Kayla Loughman, Isabelle Irani, and Morgan Bui each registered two individual wins for the Black Bears.

Maine was victorious in the 200 yard medley relay as the team of Marlee Canale, Molly Olzinski, Irani, and Liz Stoelzel won the event with a time of 1:52.29. Loughman, Stoelzel, Emma Glove,r and Cam Hargraves teamed up to win the 200 yard freestyle relay at 1:41.42.

Loughman’s two individual wins came in the 100 yard backstroke (1:01.36) and the 100 yard freestyle (54.00). Irani picked up individual victories in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 58.53 before taking top marks in the 50 yard fly at 26.93. Bui touched the wall first in the 100 yard breaststroke with a final time of 1:08.80 before winning the 100 IM at 1:04.33.

Emma Glover took first in the 200 IM at 2:16.66 while Mia Poirier was victorious in the 200 freestyle with a final time of 1:58.73.

Aubrey St. Pierre took gold in the 50 breaststroke at 32.23 while Canale took the top spot in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:13.81. In the distance event, Sloane Gardner won the 500 freestyle at 5:22.31.

On the diving boards, Ashley LeClaire won the 1 meter dive with a final score of 242.10 while Jenna Biebel won the 3 meter event with a score of 206.62.

Orono, Maine — The University of Maine men’s swimming & diving team posted 16 first place victories, taking all spots on the podium in all by one event, in its home opening meet with Maine Maritime Academy.

Cam Watelet had the top individual performance of the day as he took gold in three events. Watelet won the 100 yard butterfly at 52.93, took top honors in the 50 fly with a time of 23.61, and won the 100 IM at 55.57.

Liam Blair won two events, taking gold in the 100 backstroke at 53.37 and the 200 back with a final winning time of 1:58.38.

Finn Devers added two victories, touching the wall first in the 200 freestyle at 1:45.70 and the 100 freestyle at 48.37. Nate Teerlinck was dominant in the breaststroke events, winning the 50 breaststroke at 28.06 before taking top marks in the 100 breaststroke at 1:02.99.

Zareck Tello won the 200 IM at 2:03.67 while Kaden Kilger took first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.34. Scott Klein won the 500 freestyle, touching the wall at 4:59.58.

Riley Clark swept the diving events, winning the 1 meter with 270.45 points and the 3 meter with a score of 285.82.

The team of Blair, Teerlinck, Watelet, and Kevin Arpin won the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:36.35.

Blair, Klein, Devers, and Arpin joined forces to win the 200 yard freestyle relay event with a final time of 1:28.35.

ORONO, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men’s swimming and diving faced UMaine-Orono on Saturday afternoon, in a non-scoring meet at Wallace Pool.

Men’s Team Highlights:

  • Relay team of Cameron Sprott (Hampton, Va.), Aidan Burke (Virginia Beach, Va.), Ryan Maher (St. Helens, Ore.), and Carson Trout (League City, Texas) took fourth in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:44.55
  • Fox Fernald (Portland, Maine) finished fifth in both the 200 yard IM, with a time of 2:20.29, and the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.40
  • John Markillie (Richland, Wash.) led the Mariners in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.21 to finish seventh, and finished second in the 100 yard IM with a time of 59.43
  • Trout led the Mariners in the 100 yard backstroke, finishing fifth with a time of 1:03.40
  • Burke took the fifth spot in both the 50 yard breaststroke, with a time of 30.63, and the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.24
  • Sprott finished fourth in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 57.42
  • Griffin Erb (Bangor, Maine) led the Mariners with a seventh place finish in the 100 yard freestyle, with a time of 57.70
  • Jace Chouinard (North Fort Myers, Fla.) took third in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.33 and eighth in the 50 yard butterfly with a time of 25.81
  • Jay Creegan took fourth in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:25.03
  • Relay team of Chouinard, Fernald, Sprott and Markillie placed fourth in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.48

Up Next: The Mariners return to action on Saturday, November 5 when they host Husson University at 12:00 pm inside of Bok Pool.
