UCSB keeps rolling with a strong recruiting class coming in, nabbing a commitment from CCAT’s Nick Velayos. He’s a senior at the Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles.

Velayos is a sprint freestyler and butterflier. He clocked lifetime bests in the three sprint freestyle events recently, competing at the MAC Senior Holiday Challenge in Arizona in December. His best times in both butterfly races were also done recently, in club competition in November.
Velayos would’ve placed seventh in the 100 fly, ninth in the 200 fly, 14th in the 200 free, 15th in the 100 free and 15th in the 50 free at the 2021 MPSF Championships, where UCSB took third. He would’ve been the Gauchos’ #2 100 butterflier last season.
This coming season, Velayos will suit up with Justin Wong, Austin Sparrow, Jude DiStefano, Matthew Driscoll and Kyle Brill in UCSB’s impressive incoming class.
