Canadian distance specialist Patrick Hussey is set to join the UNC Tar Heels this fall with their class of 2024. Hussey trains with Pointe-Claire Swim Club in the Montreal area.
I am really excited to be joining the swim and dive team at Chapel Hill. Coach Mark, Coach Jack and all of the team really made me feel at home. The team has tremendous potential and I look forward to working hard both in the class and in the pool . Go Heels Go.

Based on his converted times, Hussey is a versatile pickup with strength in mid-distance to distance free, butterfly, and IM. At the 2019 Canadian Junior Championships, Hussey won the 200 free and 100 fly. He reached the A-final in two events at the 2019 Canadian Worlds Trials, placing eighth in both the 400 IM (4:27.52) and 400 free (3:58.11).
Hussey would’ve been UNC’s top miler by more than six seconds last season with his converted best in that event. He also would’ve been their top 400 IMer and their #2 200 butterflier. At the 2020 ACC Championships, Hussey would’ve scored at 19th in the mile and he would’ve made the C-final in the 400 IM.
Hussey joins Boyd Poelke, Connor Watling, Kendall Ewing, Noah Rutberg, Sam Long, Perry Becker and transfer Anton Down-Jenkins in the fall of 2020.
