Relay lineups are out for the mixed medley relay on day 4, with teams using plenty of different combinations.
Most of the contending teams have used the usual two men first technique, but a few haven’t including China and Australia.
The Americans are using Ryan Murphy on backstroke which isn’t a surprise after finishing behind Matt Grevers in the 100m final, but it is a surprise to see both Kevin Cordes and Kelsi Worrell on breast and fly as they’ve been the fastest on their respective strokes so far in the competition. They’re the only contending team that seems to be pulling out some of their big guns this morning.

Be interesting to see who the Aussies go with for tonight? Probably wasn’t their fastest team but did an amazing job qualifying in second
I’d imagine they bring in Larkin and E. McKeon on BK and Fly, simply crunching the numbers means they drop around 2 secs by doing so. Then they have to decide whether to bring in C2 for the Free leg, or preserve her for the individual events later on, and stick with Jack. Wilson had a good swim, and gives them at least some hope for the medley relay.
They didn’t need to use Cordes for that prelim swim he has a final tonight. Even the British team didn’t use Peaty.
Is there a possibility of having King and Dressel in the final ?
Then we will be able to see King vs Peaty. Of course no contest.
No reason to put Dressel though. He has another 9 swims (assuming he makes it to all finals) including the medley relay.
Here’s a reason to put him on the relay: he swims fast and they want to win the gold medal…
I did an initial double take when I read that Aussie team because I thought why did they name three females? Then I realised it was Matt and Kaylee swimming. 😀
lol
this looks like the finals team? I suppose they all don’t have another swim today so they are just cruising prelims. What is up with the heat seeding in this event? We can’t get a better seed than the Faroe Islands?
Why big guns in the prelims? Aka Cordes and Worrell. They dont trust Miller?
50 breast final. Gibson is just not gonna cut it at 58s sadly
I’ll say Comerford is big gun as well.
That Murphy guy I heard is good too.
