It’s Day 2 in Irvine and we’ve got 18 heats of women’s and men’s 100 free, followed by 13 heats of women’s and men’s 400 IM. 2021 Olympian Bella Sims tops the field in the women’s 100 free with the only sub-54 seed time (53.73), while Quintin McCarty (48.95) and Grant House (48.96) are the only entrants under the 49-second barrier in the men’s meet.
Kayla Han, who recently moved back to La Mirada after spending a year in Carmel, Indiana, is the #1 seed by over 2 seconds in the 400 IM with 4:42.32. Hannah Bellard, who won the 200 fly last night, is seeded 2nd with 4:44.67. Levi Sandidge (4:17.61) comes in with the fastest seed time in the men’s meet, while Rex Maurer (4:19.10) and Jake Magahey (4:19.19) are also seeded under 4:20.

Penny Zarczynski from Planet Swim Aquatics opened the morning with a .3 drop to win heat 1 with 57.73. Bellevue Club’s Gracyn Kehoe followed with 57.79 in heat 2, improving her time by .25.
Heat 3 was seeded by yards times. Michigan’s Brady Kendall (56.43), Bri Roberson of Athens Bulldog Swim Club (56.59), and LSU’s Michaela De Villiers (56.92) all broke 57 seconds to rocket to the top of the leaderboard.
Bellevue Club’s Kamryn Meskill went 57.34 to claim heat 4, while 15-year-old Alyssa Ton from Irvine Novaquatics went 56.88, improving by .1, to win heat 5.
Claire Newman from University of Michigan kicked off the circle-seeded heats with 55.40. Tide Swimming’s Kayla Wilson dropped .1 to finish 2nd in 55.84, while Palo Alto Stanford’s Sloane Reinstein was 3rd in 56.71.
Indiana Swim Club’s Kristina Paegle ripped a 54.66 to win heat 7 by half a body length. Michigan’s Lindsay Flynn (55.43) and Fishers Area’s Julie Mishler (56.28) followed.
Liberty Clark shot off to a quick lead in the final heat, flipping at 26.48 and finishing with 55.28 to win ahead of Bella Sims (55.56) and Caroline Larsen of Foxjets (55.83).
Orinda’s Emilia Barck and Bellevue Club’s Sophia Sunwoo were Declared False Starts.

Luke Nebrich from Rowan Aquatic Club won heat 1 in 52.23. Tide Swimming’s Austin Temple followed in the next heat with 51.78 dropping .7 from his entry time. North Baltimore’s Patrick Branon (51.80, PB x .7) and Max Lestina of Indiana Swim Club (51.97, PB x .6) were also under 52 seconds.
Ethan Schutten from Schroeder YMCA took heat 3 in 52.04, dropping .2. Irvine’s Will Chen broke 52 for the first time to win a very tight heat 4 from lane 8 with 51.78. At the other end of the pool, DongQi Yu from Alto Swim Club touched 2nd with 51.89, also a newcomer to the sub-52 club. Thomas Hadji and Ethan Moore from Alamo Area tied for 3rd in 51.91.
Vlad Dubinin was out very fast from lane 2, flipping at 23.86, and he hung on to win heat 5 with 50.88. Derek Hutchins from Irvine Novaquatics (51.02) and Ben Muelemans from Schroeder YMCA (51.12) both dropped time to finish 2nd and 3rd. We had another handful of 51s in heat 6, where Life Time Georgia’ Will Gavin won from lane 1 with 51.34 ahead of Irvine Nova’s Andrew Makasymowski (51.40). Timothy Lee from Scarlet Aquatics (51.75) edged Yuri Plaskin from Rise Aquatic Club (51.78) for 3rd. All 4 swimmers notched PBs.
Ian Everett from Tsunami Swim Team improved by .6 to win heat 7 in 50.96, cracking 51 for the first time. Brody Chandler of Sierra Marlins (51.37) and JD Thumann of Sooner Swim Club (51.47) touched just behind.
Dylan Smiley of Indiana Swim Club was 1st at the 50 and successfully held off a fast-charging Jack Dahlgren from Team Triumph to win the first circle-seeded heat in 59.24. Dahlgren went 49.78 for 2nd, while Dynamo’s Cooper McDonald clocked in at 50.91 for 3rd. Grant House of Sun Devil Swimming won the next heat in 49.03 ahead of Steph Goncharov from LSU (49.71) and Thackston McMullan of Cincinnati Marlins (50.60).
The final heat went to Owen McDonald of Indiana Swim Club in 49.29. Quin Seider from Ojai Heat Waves (59.93) and Evan Croley of Streamline Aquatics (50.68) rounded out the top 3.
Quintin McCarty from Wolfpack Elite, the top seed in this event, was a No Swim, while Michigan’s Bence Szabados and Jack Wilkening were Declared False Starts.
