15-year-old Sean Green ended his incredible meet this weekend with one final win in the 200 back. He clocked a 1:45.31, marking a 4 second drop from his best time he set at this meet last year. Green has been on an absolute tear this weekend, beginning with becoming the youngest swimmer in decades to hit a sub-15 minute 1650. He ended the meet winning 6 out of his 7 individual events, while setting new personal bests in all of them.
14-year-old Alyssa Sagle posted a big best time in the 200 back, as she clocked a 1:58.93 to win the event by 3 seconds ahead of Elizabeth Bryan. Sagle’s previous best time was 2:02.79, which she had set at this meet in 2021. She dropped about a second in prelims, then found 2.63 seconds more in finals, getting her under the 2:00 barrier for the first time.
18-year-old Camille Spink picked up her 4th win of the meet in the 100 free. Spink, who is committed to Tennessee for next fall, clocked a season-best time of 48.48 to beat Rachel Bockrath by a little over a second. Spink was only a few tenths off her personal best of 48.13, which she set earlier this year at the VHSL State Championship. Bockrath, an Ohio State commit for 2024, shaved off two tenths to record a personal best time of 49.61.
14-year-old Andrew Vanas from Nation’s Capital won the 100 free in a 46.22, setting a new boys’ 13-14 Potomac Valley Swimming record. The previous record of 46.35 was set in 2018 by Brett Feyerick, who is also an NCAP swimmer. Vanas collected a total of five individual wins this weekend.
Cavan Gormsen from LIAC ended her meet a best time and win in the 200 IM. The University of Virginia commit posted a 2:01.18, beating Lainey Mullins by just over a second. Gormsen, who typically focuses on freestyle events, dropped over three seconds from her entry time of 2:04.30. Mullins, who is also a Virginia commit, was just under a second off her own best time, as she recorded a 2:02.26.
12-year-old Bruce Qian won twice on the final day, going 7 for 7 on individual events overall. He first won the 100 fly with a new personal best time of 56.17, over two seconds quicker than the rest of the field. He returned in the 100 IM, where he was the only swimmer to break the 1:00 barrier with a 59.52. He was slightly off his best time of 58.95, which he had set in prelims.
