Top Races to Look for During Saturday’s Prelims
On Saturday, the day will be almost exclusively about IM’s. For some classes, that will mean the 150 meter IM, with no breaststroke. For some classes, that will mean the 200 meter IM. Even in the morning, the women’s 200 IM multi-class preliminary rounds should be exciting, as the final heat will be full of stars from different classes. That includes Jessica Long, Aurelie Rivard, Madeleine Scott, Katherine Downie, Kayla Clarke, and the top seed Becca Meyers.
Meyers obliterated the World Record in the 400 free on Thursday, and she’ll now go after Valerie Grand-Maison’s record in the 200 IM. Meyers comes in seeded at 2:30.04, and the record is 2:27.64.
On the men’s side, the biggest showdown of the day should be in the S10 200 IM. Canadian Benoit Huot, at 30 years old, is the veteran and the World Record holder. Ian Silverman, at 18 years old, is the youngster but also the hot hand this week – having been best times all over the board this week.
