So with Bowersox having a rough session in the diving well, that means likely just the one diving scorer for Texas… making the importance of beating Texas on the two relays tonight even bigger for Cal… If they take care of business with their individuals, and can top Texas in the relays, we are looking at a really fun Day 3.

I am going to throw this out there as a prediction. NCAA yards gets so ridiculously close in each event that we finally go to LCM in order to separate people. NCAAs becomes the second most important meet to the Olympic Games. If NCAA support stays with swimming, I’d say 30 years.

They’d go to 1,000th before LCM… but if the big conferences get their way and can start dishing some money to the football players, NCAA swimming is in a world of trouble.

I noticed from the results of day one that the percentage of swimmers who swam faster at night is low. The pressure to swim very fast in the morning must be insane. I don’t think we will ever go to LCM in the NCAA because there aren’t enough LCM pools at every university or college. That would cost a tremendous amount to build. The playing field is separated during the summer LCM season and always has been. That’s where the elite come out to swim and make the big teams. People have always come out of the wood work and swam fast scy but are no where to be found come lcm.

LCM is on my wish-list, also. Or at least, scm. It makes sense that the deepest meet in the world should have world records set.

For the sake of practicality, and to make sure that as many schools keep swimming as a sport, I think we do have to settle for 25y, at least for a while. Look what happened to Clemson: they got dropped “because they can’t have competitive facilities.” Of course, that was lots of hogwash: it was easier to say that than to say “We need to give our football coach a raise.”

As for D-II and D-III swimming, it will be short course yards until the sun explodes in a fiery ball, billions of… Read more »
