Cal continued to absolutely blow away their seeded swimming points, and that’s why they have a big lead headed into the final day of this meet. But this was also their best day. The Bears are actually 47.5 points ahead of where they were after day 2 at last year’s meet (though, last year their lead was 63.5 points, this year it’s only 36).

Texas is keeping pace with Cal in terms of improvements thanks largely to a ton of diving points. On the final day of the meet, Cal is seeded with 131 points, with Texas seeded at 85. Much like we saw last year, Texas will get very close in this meet after the 200 breaststroke, but Cal will dominate scoring in the 200 fly (four potential scorers to Texas’ 1) to put another big gap on. That means that the Longhorns need to take the lead before that point of the meet – which means big points in the mile, and finding scorers in the 200 back. It’s definitely an uphill battle, and they’ll need some help from Cal underperforming, but it is doable. Cal still stands as the new favorites with one day to go.

Arizona, despite winning three national titles, still got further behind their seeds. That’s because in all three of those titles, they also had the top seed. Stanford also stays just above seed, while Michigan and Auburn have fallen way behind.
