Indiana State University is building a brand-new swimming & diving program, and the Sycamores are partnering with SwimSwam to give you a front row seat to the process.
In a series of videos, Indiana State program members will give an inside glimpse into what it looks like to build a brand-new NCAA Division I program from the ground up.
The Indiana State Sycamores will be adding swimming & diving as a women’s sport to their athletic department beginning in the 2016-2017 season. That gives them just about a year to prepare before the team’s big debut.
In this first installment in the series, new program head coach Matt Leach talks about the process so far, and what’s next for the Sycamores.
Leach was hired just a few months ago, in late June. That gave him just enough time to get in on the recruiting class of 2016, the group that will serve as Indiana State’s first-ever freshman class. Recruiting season begins on July 1st of each year.
Indiana State is also building a brand-new aquatic center, a facility currently under construction. You can see some of the progress on the pool here, on the school’s website, GoSycamores.com.
ISU will compete in the Missouri Valley Conference, a women’s-only conference in swimming that features eight-time defending champs Missouri State.
Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes info about the launch of a brand-new program.
A dedicated coach, just like when he swam competitively, he will do what is needed to get the job done. Anyone who swam with him or coached him knows his commitment to the sport and his athletes. Will be an interesting year until the program gets up and running.

This sounds like it will be an interesting ongoing series. I look forward to it!
