Emily Kosten from the Central Bucks Swim Team in Pennsylvania has verbally committed to the Wisconsin Badgers, she reported to SwimSwam on Tuesday evening.
Kosten’s yards bests are 23.00 and 50.14 in the 100 and 200 freestyles, which are her two primary events and where she’s needed the most by the Badgers. She’s a very well-rounded swimmer overall, though, and adds on a 1:50.14 in the 200 free and a 56.26 in the 100 fly that should have an impact while Wisconsin is building depth to go with its top-end success.
Kosten’s big short course taper meet for the past few years has been the Tom Dolan Invitational in December, with a second taper coming in March. During her sophomore year, that March taper was for the Pennsylvania High School State Championship meet. She has opted out of representing North Penn High her other three years, however, to focus on club swimming.
At the last TDI, she dropped three-tenths in her 100 free and a very significant six-tenths in her 50 free.
She’s also a very good long course swimmer. In the summer of 2013, at just 15, she swam 26.52 in the 50 meter free and 57.00 in the 100 meter free, which are Winter Nationals and U.S. Open cuts, respectively.
