900 Age Group Swimmers to Descend Upon Aberdeen for Scottish Age Group Championships

The Countdown is on as Aberdeen Again Plays Host to Countries’ Top Age Group Swimmers

For immediate release – Monday 23 March 2015

Over 900 of the best age group swimmers will descend on Aberdeen to compete in the Scottish National Age Groups Swimming Championships, which take place at the Aberdeen Sports Village Aquatics Centre from 31 March to 5 April.

For some there will be the opportunity to race against some significant competition that comes in the guise of Commonwealth Games Champions Hannah Miley and Ross Murdoch. For others the event will perhaps provide the first National Championships medal or a National Squad consideration time.

Scottish Swimming National Coach, Alan Lynn, is looking forward to the event. He said,

“I’m four months into the job and the Scottish National Age Groups Championships will give me the chance to assess potential, catch up with coaches and start the planning process in earnest for the Gold Coast in 2018 and Tokyo in 2020.”

Scottish Swimming, in partnership with Glasgow-based QTV Sports, will once again be providing a free-to-air live stream from the Championships, broadcasting the evening sessions (finals) online from Wednesday 1st April. The stream can be found at www.scottishswimming.com/live. The morning and afternoon heats can be followed with a CoverItLive feed, which can be found at www.scottishswimming.com/snagslive.

Forbes Dunlop, Chief Executive Officer of Scottish Swimming, said,

“We are delighted to return to Aberdeen and to the Aquatics Centre. The support provided by Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeen Sports Village allows us to provide another great racing opportunity for athletes, coaches and clubs in a great facility.

“The atmosphere was electric at last year’s event with the gallery full to capacity and we hope families, friends and supporters will rally behind the swimmers and show them great support. On behalf of Scottish Swimming I wish all athletes competing the very best.”

The competition will run over five and a half days from 31 March to 5 April 2015. Tickets for children can be bought for as little as £1 and for adults advance tickets start at £3 for heats and £4 for finals and will allow individuals to fast-track into the venue. Tickets can be bought online atwww.snags2015.eventbrite.co.uk. Only a limited number of tickets will be available to buy at the door, so advance booking is recommend.
