NEW HAVEN, Conn. – It was a successful Senior Day for the Yale men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams. The men posted a 169-131 victory over George Washington, while the women defeated GW 200-100.
Yale’s 14 seniors were honored prior to the swimming events. The seniors from the women’s team are Ava Franks, Sophia Moore, Isabella Paoletti, Ginger Ren, Ishani Singh, Genevieve Thibodeau and captain Vivian Weng.
The men’s seniors are Kevin Bradley, Gabe Colmenares, Jean Paul Ditto, Marcus Hodgson, Kiernan Liberman, Adam Zapatka and captain Sungmin Kang.
In the men’s meet, both Charlie Egeland and Deniel Nankov were double winners. Egeland captured the 100 (55.34) and 200 (2:03.42) breaststrokes, while Nankov won the 50 (20.59) and 100 (44.84) freestyles.
Yale also won both relays – the 200 medley (1:29.78) and the 400 freestyle (3:00.68).
In the women’s meet, Franks won a pair of events in her final home meet, capturing the 200 IM (2:02.66) and the 200 breast (2:13.82).
Alex Massey won both the 100 (55.82) and 200 (2:01.67) butterfly, Jessey Li took the 50 (23.63) and 100 (51.10) freestyles and Lilly Derivaux won the 200 (1:51.74) and 500 (4:56.18) freestyles.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A week after the George Washington men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams celebrated Senior Day with a sweep at home, GW found themselves on the flip-side of the coin, falling to two talented Bulldog teams as Yale celebrated Senior Day at Kiphuth Exhibition Pool in New Haven, Conn. GW fell to the Bulldogs, 169-131 (men’s) and 200-100 (women’s).
WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

Olivia Paquette picked up right where she left off last weekend and won the 3-meter board (305.55).

Ava Topolewski put together a quality swim in the 1000-yard freestyle, beating her time from last week by almost five seconds and finishing in second place (10:11.72).

Barbara Schaal took home first in the 100-yard backstroke, earning the women’s first race win of the day (56.95). Senior Marlee Rickert also found the podium in the event after tapping in third (57.96).

Ava DeAngelis made it back-to-back victories for the Buff & Blue with her first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.78), over a half-second faster than her win last weekend vs. Georgetown. DeAngelis later took second place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.07).

Sophomore Phoebe Wright tapped in far outfront of the competition in the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.55), followed by Schaal in second place (2:04.33).

Zoe Schneider was GW’s top finisher in the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.37), good for second place (4:58.37).

In the 100-yard butterfly, Moriah Freitas missed first place by just .24 seconds and finished in second place (56.06).

Wright closed the individual swims with a second-place finish in the 200-yard IM (2:06.47).

In the final race of the day, the 400-yard freestyle relay, the GW A relay finished in second place (3:31.19), swam by Riley Kudlac, Yulia Groysman, Topolewski and Wright.
MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

In the first men’s race of the day, the GW 200-yard medley A relay was narrowly beaten by Yale’s A relay and finished in second place (1:30.07). The relay was swam by Karol Mlynarczyk, Ralf Roose, Djurdje Matic and Georgi Yanev.

The Buff & Blue completed a clean sweep of the top-three spots in the 1000-yard freestyle. The effort was led by Daniel Choi (9:34.00) and Misha Lyubavskiy (9:34.10), who finished .10 seconds within each other, and was completed by Philip Moldovanu in third place (9:38.34).

Toni Dragoja followed up last weekend’s win in the 200-yard freestyle with another win in the event (1:39.73) and was over a second faster than last week’s result.

Mlynarczyk dominated the 100-yard backstroke, finishing nearly two seconds over the closest Bulldog and taking first place (48.75). Sophomore Ganesh Sivaramakrishnan also earned points with a third place finish (50.79). Mlynarczyk later brought home the top time in the 200-yard backstroke (1:48.89).

Daniel Nagy (1:49.65) and Connor Rodgers (1:50.09) led the 200-yard butterfly wire-to-wire and took home the top two spots in the event, respectively.

Dragoja just missed the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle and finished in second (45.29).

Matic (48.33) and Nagy (49.20) occupied the top two spots on the podium in the 100-yard butterfly, respectively.

Con. Rodgers pulled away in the freestyle portion of the 200-yard IM to clinch first place (1:51.24) in the final individual race of the day.

In the last event of the day, the GW 400-yard freestyle A relay took home second place (3:04.21), swam by Dragoja, Matic, Nagy and Con. Rodgers.

GW will send an abbreviated squad to the UVA Cavalier Invitational on Feb. 9-11, before the
GW women go for a three-peat and men go for four in a row at this year’s A-10 Championships, held from Feb. 21-24, at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Va.
