The Western Kentucky University swimming and diving continued the trend of pool and school records being broken in the final day of the Hilltopper Open, as the team concluded a successful competition on Saturday.
Five more pool records and one school record fell in the night’s finals, as WKU tabbed 17 new records for the Bill Powell Natatorium wall along with two school records total for the three-day event.
Saturday was highlighted by Claire Conlon’s 2:12.41 in the 200 breast, breaking her own school record set last season of 2:13.34. It also marked a NCAA B standard time for the junior and stands as one of the top 25 times in the nation for the event.
Sam Holmes opened the night with a pool-record time of 16:45.55 in the 1650 free while Allie Duff’s 1:56.92 in the 200 back set a new record, as Duff nearly took off nine seconds from her prelim time.
Chris Goodman followed Duff’s suit in the 200 back, as he broke a pool record that stood since 2007. Goodman finished the event in 1:47.80.
The women’s 400 free relay closed the night and Hilltopper Open with the last record to fall. Natalie Lenderman, Michelle Craddock, Duff and Marx topped the record of 3:27.24 with a new time of 3:24.32.
The Hilltopper Open closed out the semester for many of the Hilltoppers and Lady Toppers; however, a group of swimmers aren’t quite finished, as they head to the USA Short-Course National Championships on Dec. 5-7 in Knoxville, Tenn.
