Tucson, Ariz.-The first six events of the 2021 UANA Junior Pan American Diving Championships were contested on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at the Kasser Family Pool on the University of Arizona Campus. U.S. divers claimed two gold medals and eight total medals on the day.
In the girl’s D 3-meter competition Mallory Worobel (USA) placed 3rd with a total score of 213.55. Lia Cueva Lobato (MEX) placed 2nd with a total score of 235.80 and the UANA Junior Pan American Diving Champion was Mia Cueva Lobato (MEX) with a total score of 241.45. When it came to the boy’s B 1-meter, Joshua Hedberg (USA) placed 3rd with a total score of 374.20, 2nd place went to Emmitt Reesor (CAN) with a total score of 377.40, and the diving champion was Tomas Tamayo Meneses (COL) with a total score of 387.25.
The afternoon session at the 2021 UANA Junior Pan American Diving Championships began with the combined Boy’s C and Girl’s B event. In the boy’s C event, Arnaud Corbeil (CAN) earned gold with a total score of 320.20, followed by Dean Dacoulis-Calfacacos (CAN) in silver and Gabriel Vázquez Cio (MEX) earning bronze. In the girl’s event, the girl’s B event, Canadian diver Renee Elizabeth Batalla (CAN) earned golf with a total score of 343.40 followed by American diver Avery Worobel (USA), whose younger sister medaled in the morning’s three-meter event. Kelly Mejorada Hernández (MEX) placed third in the event, rounding out the podium.
Continuing into the afternoon sessions, Team USA saw their first two gold medals of the competition earned by Team co-captains Maxwell Weinrich and Daryn Wright. Weinrich (USA) earned gold in the Boy’s A 3-Meter with a total score of 519.55, edging out his U.S. teammate, Carson Tyler who took silver with a score of 518.25. Benjamin Tessier (CAN) took the bronze medal in the event. Following the boy’s event, Wright (USA) earned the squad’s second gold of the event in the Girl’s A 1-Meter. The silver medal went to Sonya Palkhivala (CAN) with Sophie Verzyl (USA) earning the bronze.
The first day of the competition concluded with the boy’s A/B synchronized platform event. The Canadian duo of Benjamin Tessier (CAN) and Matt Cullen (CAN) won the event with a total score of 297.72, followed by the U.S. team of Tyler Wills (USA) and Misha Andriyuk (USA) in silver. Miguel Benjumea (COL) and Juan Ramirez (COL) earned the bronze medal.
