Wabash College Adds Futures Qualifier Quinn Sweeney (2023)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Quinn Sweeney, a native of Carmel, Indiana, has announced his commitment to continue his education and swimming career at Wabash College. Sweeney’s decision keeps him in-state, as Wabash is located in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

Sweeney is wrapping up his final year at Guerin Catholic High School in Noblesville. He trains and competes year-round at Carmel Swim Club, a 2023 Gold Medal club under USA Swimming’s Club Excellence program. His younger sister, Molly Sweeney, is a national high school record holder as a member of Carmel High School’s record-breaking 200 medley relay this spring.

He shared his commitment on Instagram:

Sweeney is a mid-distance freestyler and owns a Futures qualifying time in the 200 free. He recently kicked off his long course at Speedo Sectionals in Indianapolis, where he went six-for-six on personal best times. He put up his highest finish in the 100m free, where he finished 24th overall with a best time of 54.32 in prelims.

Sweeney also had a fantastic short course season this year. He competed at the NAC Music City Invite in December where he posted best times in all of his events. Highlighting his weekend was his performance in the 200 free, as he dropped nearly four seconds to post a 1:42.17. He also took almost eight seconds off his 500, stopping the clock at 4:41.82 in prelims. He shaved off more time in both events later in the season, ending at 1:41.37 and 4:40.55.

Top SCY Times:

  • 100 free – 47.42
  • 200 free – 1:41.37
  • 500 free – 4:40.55
  • 400 IM – 4:09.20

Wabash College is a NCAA Division III program that competes in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Wabash finished 4th out of nine teams at this year’s conference meet, just ten points shy of Wooster who took 3rd.

Sweeney would have been the team’s top performer this year in the 400 IM, and the 2nd-fastest performer in both the 200 and 500 freestyle. Leading the way in the 200 this season was Ethan Johns, who swam a season best time of 1:41.00 as a relay lead-off. In the 500, Xander Straw was the only swimmer to break 4:40, coming in at 4:38.10 at conference. Straw is a freshman, meaning he’ll overlap with Sweeney for three years.

Sweeney is the only public commitment so far for Wabash’s incoming class of 2027.
