Virginia Tech Scores Commitment From Summer Jrs. Qualifier Aleena Stukus (2024)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Aleena Stukus has announced her verbal commitment to further her academic and athletic career at Virginia Tech next fall. Stukus’ decision keeps her in-state, as she currently attends James W. Robinson High School in Fairfax, Virginia.

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Virginia Tech.  This would not have been possible without my family, friends and coaches.  Thank you to everyone who helped me along the way!  Go Hokies!”

Stukus trains with Machine Aquatics, and swims a mix of freestyle, breaststroke, and IM. She currently owns a USA Swimming Summer Juniors qualifying time in the 100m breaststroke after posting a 1:12.88 at the NCSA Summer Championships.

In addition to hitting a personal best in the 100m breast at NCSAs, Stukus logged personal bests in the 100m free (58.34), 200m free (2:08.17), 200m breast (2:44.68), and 200m IM (2:26.05).

Stukus also had an outstanding meet at the short course NCSAs in the spring. She shaved off over half a second in the 100 breaststroke for 20th (1:03.34), as well as dropped over two seconds in the 200 breast to take 39th overall (2:20.28).

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 free – 23.95
  • 100 free – 51.75
  • 200 free – 1:52.33
  • 100 breast – 1:03.34
  • 200 breast – 2:20.28
  • 200 IM – 2:06.66

The Virginia Tech women finished 6th as a team at the 2023 ACC Championships. The team is currently led by head coach Sergio Lopez, who was named the Director of Virginia Tech Swimming & Diving in May of 2018.

Stukus is closest to ACC scoring range in the 100 breaststroke, where a time of 1:02.28 was needed to advance to the C-final. The 100 breaststroke was among the weakest for the Hokies this past season, as the team’s highest finisher was Charlotte Rigg at 32nd (1:03.65). Allison Henry is currently the top performer of the season, as she logged a 1:05.05 at the tri meet with Texas A&M and South Carolina.

With her commitment, Stukus joins Christine Datovech, Amanda Barnard, Esther Park, Lexi Sawwa, and Amanda Aidar. The majority of the class are Virginia natives.
